Five-seater SUVs make up one of the most popular segments. These are vehicles that anyone can enjoy driving, whether you simply stay in town or like to engage in a little light off-road action from time-to-time. They are as ideal for a single person as they are for a couple or small family, and the best 5 seater SUVs are traditionally moderately priced.

First on the list is the 2013 Suburban XV Crosstrek. It boasts superior off-road capabilities, standard all-wheel drive, fun-styling and a fuel-efficient engine. This brand new model has a flat load floor too, allowing you to make the most of cargo space.

The family friendly 2012 Dodge Journey gets rave reviews for its available built-in booster seats. A flashy exterior meets with a sophisticated interior that is rated now as one of the best in the segment. Exceptional crash test ratings, clever storage bins and plenty of cargo space is attractive to anyone hauling precious cargo.

Next is the 2012 Suzuki Grand Vitara, mainly respected for its lengthy powertrain warranty, exceptional braking capabilities and extensive list of standard safety features. It offers a fuel-efficient, four-cylinder engine, quiet cabin and some options you might not expect at this low price point, such as keyless ignition, roof rack side rails and a sunroof, which are all included in the Limited model.

The 2012 Toyota RAV4 is a popular pick, especially for those doing a lot of in-town driving. Responsive handling and a tight turning circle make it easy to maneuver and both the four and six-cylinder engines are thrifty, when it comes to fuel consumption. Toyota's Entune Suite offers plenty of internet streaming technologies and the touchscreen interface is incredibly easy to operate, even for those not so technically inclined.

The lively turbocharged four-cylinder engine helps the 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan make the list of best five seater SUVs. The cabin is surprisingly upscale with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, genuine metal trim and soft touch materials. The three-way split-folding rear seat is definitely a highlight for those who typically haul rear seat passengers and snowboards or skis.

The 2013 Kia Sportage has to be one of the best looking and certainly one of the most futuristic small crossovers. Sharp styling for the interior and exterior, intuitive controls, abundance of premium features for customization and an available turbocharged engine put this vehicle on the list of best five-seater SUVs. Add the fact that it boasts "Good" crash test ratings and impressive fuel-economy and it is a vehicle that is hard to resist.

The 2012 Chevrolet Equinox certainly raises the bar for style and performance in the small crossover segment. Innovative safety features, like lane departure warning and forward collision systems are available, as is an attractive two-tone color scheme in the cabin. Choose from a fuel-efficient four-cylinder or a strong V6 that is capable of towing 3,500 pounds.

The innovative second-row seat design of the 2013 Toyota Highlander is one of the key features that puts it on the list of best five-seater SUVs. It receives "Good" crash test ratings, better than average braking abilities and the driver is granted excellent road visibility from all angles.

The feisty attitude of the 2013 Nissan Juke goes well beyond the exterior styling. The lively four-cylinder engine and responsive steering makes it as fun to drive as it looks and the interior follows the same ambitious styling as the exterior.

Finishing off the list is the 2013 Suburban Forester. It produces impressive off-road abilities, standard all-wheel drive, great fuel-economy, "Good" crash test ratings and plenty of legroom for rear seat passengers. Plus, its boxy styling makes it ideal for loading and hauling bulky objects.

Making the list of best five-seater SUVs is a challenge, as this is a competitive segment. However, honorable mentions go to 2013 models of the Nissan Xterrra, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport and Ford Explorer.
