There are certain qualities that one expects to receive when they purchase a luxury SUV. Many features that are additional options on other vehicles typically come standard on those in the luxury segment. Technology features are innovative, engines are powerful, seats are amazingly comfortable and the ride is flawless. It's not easy to be labeled a contender in this segment, and it is certainly a challenge to make the top 10 list, but the vehicles below have what it takes to top the charts.... It's not easy to be labeled a contender in this segment, and it is certainly a challenge to make the top 10 list, but the vehicles below have what it takes to top the charts.
One of the best luxury SUVs hands down is the Acura RDX. A potent but fuel-efficient V6 engine, exceptional crash test ratings and an unbelievably refined ride helps this vehicle make the list. The RDX is described as being freakishly agile, and with its dual cockpit dash design and optional features like solar-sensing climate control and 15GB of music storage, it's hard to resist.
Exterior styling alone could earn the Infiniti EX35 a position on the list of best luxury SUVs, but this crossover has more to offer than what you see a first glance. A 325 horsepower V6 engine, dual-polished exhaust tips, intelligent all-wheel drive and a superior turning ratio contribute to performance, while supple leather and optional Maple interior accents add to the rewinding atmosphere inside the cabin.
Lexus RX is one to turn to when you demand a luxurious and plush cabin. These vehicles come with a generous number of standard features with the Lexus Remote Touch interface being a highlight. Volvo XC60 would be an excellent runner-up to the Lexus RX, if it offered as much rear seat legroom.
Audi Q7 is next on the list. It delivers lightning fast acceleration with its supercharged 3.0-liter V6 and full-time all-wheel drive. The Q7 receives rave reviews for its use of top-notch materials throughout the cabin, ad one can't help but get excited over options like 21-inch wheels, a corner-view camera and a 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen surround sound audio system.
Thanks to its refined interior, athletic performance and sporty styling, BMW X5 makes the list, which wasn't easy to do against rival Porsche Cayenne. This midsize crossover offers a strong 300 horsepower V6 as well as an aggressive 400 horsepower V8, and comes with innovative safety features, including the BMW Assist emergency communications system.
The Infiniti QX56 is next with a V8 engine that can tow 8,500 pounds. A Hydraulic Body Motion Control System ensures a smooth ride with no body roll while a roomy cabin provides generous space for eight passengers and a ton of cargo room.
The seven-passenger Mercedes-Benz GL-Class comes next with its wickedly fast acceleration, impressive fuel economy and an enormous list of features, including the smart COMAND interface. This vehicle has been fully redesigned for 2013, which increases size and brings new engines and an abundance of options, like illuminated running boards, rear sunshades and a heated windshield washer reservoir.
The Cadillac SRX is a compelling choice with its classy cabin redesign, capable handling, fantastic braking capabilities and exceptional crash test ratings. Cadillac's CUE infotainment and control system is a definite highlight. For an SUV with a little more room, the Cadillac Escalade gets an honorable mention.
A list of best luxurious SUVs wouldn't be complete without the Land Rover Range Rover. Its unbelievable off-road capabilities, powerful V8 engine and world class interior puts it in a league of its own. This is another vehicle fully redesigned for 2013, giving this fourth generation model an all-aluminum unibody platform, a revised rear end, slimmer side mirrors and new headlights. Do take a look at the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque as well. Last but not least is the Lexus GX 460, offering three rows of seating, an impressive 92 cubic feet of cargo space. It delivers responsive handling and a smooth ride, and features a strong V8 engine and some irresistible options, including a 17-speaker Mark Levinson surround sound system.
