If you are in the market for a rather large SUV that ranks generally well as all-round vehicle, then the 2012 Cadillac Escalade SUV is for you. The Cadillac Escalade SUV is the top of General Motors' line of full-size truck and SUVs, and though it is built and based more like a truck-like vehicle, its unique exterior styling that exudes wealth and power combined with a luxurious interior make it an outstanding vehicle in its class. A powerful V8 engine gives it the pickup it needs and an adaptive suspension provides a compliant and controlled ride.
There are four trim levels available for the Cadillac Escalade SUV. The base model is packed with a variety of exterior features that include an adaptive and auto-leveling suspension, parking sensors for the rear, a tow package, 18-inch wheels, mirrors that are heated and power fold and dim on the driver's side, and a locking rear differential while the interior boasts climate control with three zones, remote ignition front seats that are heated and ventilated with ten power adjustments and four lumbar adjustments, leather upholstery, second-row captain's chairs, as well as an audio system with 10 Bose surround-sound speakers, CD/DVD player, satellite radio, interface for a USB port and the iPod and rear audio controls.
The next level of the Cadillac Escalade SUV is the Luxury level which adds an adaptive suspension that is magnetically controlled, 22-inch aluminum chrome allow wheels, a heated steering wheel and a sunroof. The Premium level replaces the chrome with body-colored styling components and painted wheels. The top-of-the-line Platinum level upgrades the leather upholstery and interior trim, has LED head lights and an upgraded entertainment system for the rear.
The engine in the Cadillac Escalade SUV is a 6.2-liter V8 that can produce 403 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard while all-wheel drive is optional. Fuel economy for the Cadillac Escalade SUV is rated at 14 mpg in the city, 18 mpg on the highway and 16 mpg combined for models with rear-wheel drive while the four-wheel drive version is rated at 13 mpg in the city, 18 mpg on the highway and 15 mpg combined. When properly equipped, the Cadillac Escalade SUV can tow up to 8,300 pounds.
Standard seating in the Cadillac Escalade SUV accommodate seven passengers with captain's chairs in the second row and a bench seat in the third row. A second row bench seat can be added which increases the capacity to eight passengers. However, once removed, there are 60.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row of seats if these are folded down as well the cargo capacity increases to 108.9 cubic feet.
The powerful V8 engine provides swift acceleration for the Cadillac Escalade SUV and adds to its confident handling, aided by the active Magnetic Ride Control suspension. Although it will always feel like you are driving a truck-based SUV rather than a crossover, the ride quality is smooth and maneuverability is adequate despite the massive size of the vehicle.
