Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid SUV Review
SUV Reviewer
The 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid offers the technology to perform better at the pump and can provide a reasonable towing capacity. It comes with seating for 8 full size people. While it offers the fuel efficiency and some definite perks, not all consumers believe the price matches all of the features quite as well as it could. There haven't been any styling or operative changes for the 2011 series from the 2010 model. Priced at over $50,000 some consumers were hoping for a few new additions to the standard equipment.
The biggest issue is that many crossovers, while they can certainly provide less cargo or towing capacity, can offer the same fuel efficiency as the 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid. Without significant savings in gas mileage, the average consumer tends to believe that they can get more from a traditional gas engine from a smaller SUV. On the plus side, there are many interesting features about the 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid.
The standard equipment includes the 18 inch alloy wheels, remote starting, leather seating, power folding heated side mirrors, adjustable pedals at the push of a button, a rearview camera as well as a rear park assist feature, power front seat adjustments, and a hybrid flow power display so that the driver always knows how much energy he or she is using and from which source. Bluetooth capability, OnStar navigation and emergency service system, and three zone climate control are also standard. The auto dimming rearview mirror is a unique feature that drivers appreciate.
The navigation system along with the nine speaker Bose stereo are standard for every 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid. Optional features include a rear seating entertainment system and a sunroof. The stereo combination is tailored to the owner's preference. The standard 6.0 liter engine provides the driver with 332 horsepower and 367 pounds of torque. The gas based engine works cohesively with the electric motors, which are 2 separate 60 kilowatt engines. Well equipped with the right configuration the 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid is capable of towing about 6,200 pounds behind it.
The 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid was subjected to the much more stringent and difficult crash test system for 2011 and rated 4 out of 5 stars. During testing it was lowered on the scale for the 3 stars awarded for rollover. It received the standard 5 stars for the side crash protection as well as the front impact crash rating. At 60 miles per hour the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid was able to stop in about 132 feet, which is better than average for full size SUVs and trucks.
With 109 cubic feet of storage space, the Tahoe Hybrid offers comparable storage to some of its competitors.
While the 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid is a heavier version of the Tahoe, the slower response behind the wheel and the overall feel of the vehicle dwindles in quality as the speed increases. The ride itself is nice and smooth. With reasonable acceleration this Tahoe is considered to be of moderate quality when all of the comparable features are added up against its price tag.
