Chevrolet TrailBlazer SUV Review

The last model year for the Chevrolet TrailBlazer was 2009. It was a mid-sized SUV built on a specially designed truck platform that offered four wheel drive with four high gears and four low gears. These features gave it good off-road capabilities as well as a high towing capacity. It was designed mostly for recreational use as its daily urban and highway driving was less responsive and versatile and its cabin was not as up-to-date. It was eventually replaced by the Chevrolet Traverse.
The Chevrolet TrailBlazer was available in four trim levels: LT, 2LT, 3LT and SS. The base LT of the Chevrolet TrailBlazer had manual air conditioning that had two zones, 17-inch allow wheels, OnStar, full power accessories, cruise control a CD player and satellite radio. The 2LT model added rear-air conditioning, automatic climate control, audio controls for the rear, a power driver seat, leather seating, a rearview mirror that auto-dimmed, outside mirrors that were heated, and Bluetooth. The 3LT was a premium model with driver seat memory, 18-inch alloy wheel wheels, a power passenger seat, front seats that were heated, a Bose sound system and power-adjustable pedals.
The Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS model was the top-of-the-line model and has features similar to the premium 3LT model. What set it apart from the other models was a V8 engine, heavy-duty brakes, 20-inch wheels, a sport-tuned suspension with quicker steering and interior and exterior trim that was special to the model. Various options for the model included a package with sunroof and premium audio system, a two-tine exterior treatment, entertainment for the rear seats and a navigation system.
Specs:
The engine in the base LT models of the Chevrolet TrailBlazer was a 4.2-liter inline six cylinder that produced 285 horsepower and 276 pound-feet of torque. It included a four-speed automatic transmission and there was a choice of either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. The SS model of the Chevrolet TrailBlazer included a 6.0 liter V8 that could produce 390 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. Standard was rear-wheel drive with the choice with a full-time all-wheel drive system that was designed for urban and highway driving rather than off-road capability. Properly equipped, the SS could tow 6,800 pounds.
Fuel economy for the Chevrolet TrailBlazer with the six cylinder engine and four-wheel drive was rated at 14 mpg in the city, 20 mpg on the highway and 17 mpg combined. Ratings for the Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS model were lower at 12 mpg in the city, 16 mpg on the highway and 13 mpg combined.
The interior of the Chevrolet TrailBlazer was unremarkable in design, constructed with inexpensive materials, but has a straightforward layout. Five adults could be seated comfortably with sufficient legroom and headroom. Cargo capacity was 40 cubic feet with the rear seats up and expanded to 80 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.
The Chevrolet TrailBlazer provided a comfortable ride in urban areas but failed to keep up with the demands of highway driving, turning corners or even rough terrain. The SS model was competent on the road, able to deliver high performance and a comfortable and firm ride at all road speeds.
