The 2012 Chevrolet Equinox SUV Crossover is a great value; it is certainly reasonably priced for what you get. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine pairs up with a six-speed automatic transmission to provide a nice balance of power and fuel-economy. This is a crossover you do not have to think twice about taking on long trips, because gas mileage is phenomenal as it is returns 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. Highway range is around 600 miles on one tank of gas!

The engine of the Chevrolet Equinox SUV Crossover is certainly not labeled as a powerhouse, but it provides enough acceleration to safely merge onto the highway, without hesitation. The standard engine mentioned above delivers 182 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque. This translates to zero to 60 mph in 9.3 seconds. However, a 3.0-liter V-6 engine is available on all trims with the exception of the LS model. This engine boosts performance a bit by providing 264 horsepower and 222 pound-feet of torque. Still, it is sluggish off the line, when compared to others in this segment.

Drivers will appreciate the extra touches, like acoustic glass and sound insulation that keep the cabin quieter than most other crossovers. With easier handling and a smoother ride than other similarly priced SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox SUV Crossover offers passengers the comfort of larger vehicles with minimal body roll. This can be accredited to the four-wheel independent suspension. This is a departure from previous models, which were less popular for their bulky feel and difficult maneuvering. The Equinox SUV now exceeds the competition in nearly every common measurement, including fuel-efficiency, and handling.

Five passengers will fit without feeling constricted, and the SUV offers plenty of cargo space at 31.4-cubic-feet. If you put down the rear seats, which can also be split 60/40, you are granted a total of 63.7 cubic feet of carrying capacity. The Chevrolet Equinox SUV Crossover has the best of both worlds with the majority of the space of larger SUVs, but the sleeker feel of the smaller styles.

Many safety features come standard, such as dual front airbags, front side airbags, and curtain side airbags, as well as four-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control and traction control. In addition, the Chevrolet Equinox SUV Crossover has daytime running lights, tire pressure monitoring and the OnStar system. There are several options that can be added for additional security, such as a rear park assist and a rearview camera. When tested, the Equinox SUV Crossover scored "Good" in frontal-offset and side-impact crash tests, and it can stop from 60 mph in only 122 feet, which is great for its size.
