Chrysler Aspen SUV Review

The Chrysler Aspen is a full-sized SUV designed for heavy towing capacities. It has a body-on-frame design which makes it more like a truck-base SUV than a crossover, and provides good off-roading capabilities. This also provides for a heavier vehicle that lends itself to a rough and tumble ride which requires a more powerful engine with lower fuel consumption. However, its spacious interior provides plenty of room for the family and the extra towing capacity is beneficial for long family trips.
The Chrysler Aspen is comes in two trim levels: the Limited and the Limited HEV. The latter is the hybrid version of this vehicle. Two-wheel or four-wheel drive is available on the Limited and standard features include automatic headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels clad in chrome, fog lamps, a rear parking camera and rear park assist, a driver seat that is powered, a power tail gate, a tilting steering wheel, second row seats that recline and third row seats that split and fold. There is climate control for the third row, cloth upholstery that is stain-resistant, wood trim and an audio system with eight speakers and touchscreen control, music storage of up to 30 Gigabytes, CD player and an auxiliary audio jack.
An optional J Package for the Chrysler Aspen adds running boards, 20-inch alloy wheels that are also clad in chrome, exterior mirrors that auto-dim and are heated, leather upholstery for the first and second rows, remote ignition, front seats that are heated, a power passenger seat, power adjustable pedals, automatic climate control, memory functions for the driver seat, rearview mirror that auto-dims, integration for Bluetooth and the iPod, upgraded speakers and a navigation system. Other available options include second-row bucket seats, a towing package, an entertainment system for the rear with DVD and television, second row seats that are heated and a sunroof.
Specs:
The standard engine for the Chrysler Aspen is a 4.7-liter V8 that can produce 303 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. Either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive is available and the standard is a five-speed automatic. When properly equipped, this engine can tow close to 6,000 pounds.
An optional engine for the Chrysler Aspen is a 5.7 liter Hemi V8 that can produce 376 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. It also comes standard with a five-speed automatic. This version can tow up to 8,900 pounds when properly equipped.
Fuel economy for the Chrysler Aspen depends on engine and drive. A rear-wheel drive standard engine vehicle is rated at 14 mpg in the city, 19 mpg on the highway and 15 mpg combined while the four-wheel drive version is rated at 13 mpg in the city, 17 mpg on the highway and 15 mpg combined. The Hemi V8 with rear-wheel drive has a fuel economy of 13 mpg in the city, 19 mpg on the highway and 15 mpg combined with similar ratings for the four-wheel drive version but with a rating of 18 mpg on the highway.
Cargo space in the Chrysler Aspen is as much as 102 cubic feet when the third row seat is folded down.
The driving capabilities of the Chrysler Aspen are average and unsophisticated with good off-road abilities. The standard V8 is sufficiently powerful to move the vehicle but the Hemi V8 adds speed and agility.

I have owned a 2008 4.7 Chrysler Apsen for 6 months now and I couldn't be happier with the car. It gives my family of four plenty of space and comfort. It has all the bells and whistles at about 5 to 10 thousand dollars less. I test drove Tahoes, Escalades and Navigators and I'm happy that this is the one I chose.
I have owned my 2008 Aspen for 22 months now and I loved everything about it until we added a new baby to our family. Even though it seats 8, it really isn't roomy enough to seat two teenagers and a carseat.
