Ford Escape Hybrid SUV Review

SUV Reviewer

The main theme of the 2012 Ford Escape Hybrid SUV is technology. This compact crossover is designed to be geared toward fuel efficiency and innovative functions that are easy and fun to use. Anyone who likes technological development will appreciate the designs that went into the Ford Escape Hybrid SUV.

As one would expect with any hybrid, the Ford Escape Hybrid SUVserves you well at the pump. It reaches 34 city miles per gallon and 31 highway miles per gallon. The Escape line is slated to be completely redesigned for 2013, and thus there are some performance issues. However, for high tech comfort and style there is a lot to be appreciated.

The Ford Escape Hybrid SUV will parallel park for you. The technology scans the available room and automatically will pick one with the proper space requirements. The driver need only to worry about controlling the gas pedal and the brake pedal. The rest is done by the automated system that controls the steering. This is one of the big selling points of the Ford Escape Hybrid SUV.

The general safety features include the stability control, antilock brakes, traction control, side curtain airbags and front seat front and side airbags. Unfortunately, one of the damaging results of test drives has proven to be the braking. The rear brakes are drum instead of disc, making it difficult to have a short stopping distance.

The Ford Escape Hybrid SUV is available in the base model and the limited model. While the base model is a little light in standard features, the hybrid base model is a little more appealing. Dual zone climate control and the Sync feature come standard, as well as 16 inch alloy wheels, power accessories, blind spot mirror, cruise control, MyKey parental controls, and a four speaker sound system including a CD player and with an audio jack. The Ford Escape Hybrid SUV Limited adds a few more features like chrome accents for the exterior, rear parking assist, sunroof, review camera, multicolor ambient lighting, heated front seats, and leather.

The Sync system is perhaps one of the more interesting functions on the Ford Escape Hybrid SUV. This system gives you the ability to control functions through voice recognition. For powering all of those technological features, the 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine is coupled with a battery system that works in conjunction with the gasoline engine. Their total effort equals 177 horsepower.

There is limited cargo space, measuring out to 28 cubic feet for the hybrid model. This is one cubic foot less than the all gasoline model. The hybrid is also cursed with a rear passenger seat that is a test of endurance and will to get out for expanded cargo room.

The hybrid handles well, although there is a great expectation for much better, even fun, handling when the 2013 model is released. The public has been promised an overhaul that will improve all trim levels, and offer some of the functional features that most SUVs offer already. Telescoping steering columns and fully adjustable steering wheel is just as hoped for as a slide and stow rear row of seats for maximizing cargo space. The overall value is still good, although many consumers are waiting to see what the 2013 model actually delivers on before making a buying decision.
