Ford Taurus X SUV Review

SUV Reviewer

The Ford Taurus X is a crossover SUV that can accommodate six or seven passengers as a comfortable family vehicle. A spacious cabin with a user-friendly interior, a pleasant drive and reasonable performance make it a vehicle with everything a large family would need for daily and even long haul transportation.

The Ford Taurus X is available in three models: the SEL, the Eddie Bauer and the Limited. The interior is set up to accommodate six passengers in three rows of seats on all models with captain's chairs in the second row and a third-row bench seat for two people but a second row bench seat is an option instead of the captain's chairs and increases the seating capacity to seven.

The SEL model of the Ford Taurus X features privacy glass, 17-inch alloy wheels, a rearview mirror that dims, heated side mirrors, a power driver seat, a steering wheel wrapped in leather with audio controls, a CD changer in the dashboard, cruise control, a trip computer and full power accessories. The Eddie Bauer Edition of the Ford Taurus X features leather upholstery in two tones in the first and second rows, 19-inch wheels, the Sync MP3 player and cell phone integration system, satellite radio, interior trim with wood grain, automatic climate control with two zones, driver and passenger seats with power adjustments and memory for the driver seat, power adjustable pedals, and six-disc CD changer. The high-end Freestyle model adds a second row center cargo console when there are captain's chairs in the second row, heaters for the front seats, a premium audio system and reverse park assist.

Available options for the Ford Taurus X include a navigation system, 18-inch chrome wheels, a DVD entertainment system for the rear, moon roof, climate control for the rear seats and a power lift gate.

The engine in the Ford Taurus X is a 3.5 liter V6 that can produce 263 horsepower and 249 pound-feet of torque. Front wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is an option. The transmission is a six-speed automatic.

Fuel economy for the Ford Taurus X is rated at 16 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg combined for the front-wheel drive model while the all-wheel drive model is rated at 15 mpg in the city, 22 mpg on the highway and 18 mpg combined.

The interior of the Ford Taurus X is spacious and even adults in the third row seats have adequate head- and legroom and can get in and out of their seats easily. Material quality is sporadic as the quality of the leather upholstery in the Limited is of high quality but the cloth interior of the SEL is not and the interior plastics are uninspiring. Cargo capacity behind the third row is 16 cubic feet and expands to 85 cubic feet when the second and third row seats are folded down.

The drive of the Ford Taurus X is reasonable and can adequately handle a family and full cargo on the road without any difficulties. Although the engine can be somewhat noisy at higher speeds, the cabin remains quiet and maintains ride comfort.
