SUV Reviewer
The GMC Yukon Denali 4WD is a truck-based full-sized SUV that is capable of handling large amounts of cargo, pulling trailers, traversing rugged terrain and comfortably seating four to five adults. The lineup was completed redesigned in 2007 and now receives only minor upgrades and the addition of the latest version of OnStar.
Features of the GMC Yukon Denali 4WD include 20-inch polished aluminum wheels with all-season tires, driver and passenger seats with multi-level heating capabilities, eight power adjustments, power-adjustable lumbar support and adjustable seating height, bucket front seats, leather upholstery, front and second row seats that are heated, memory for the driver seat settings, power tilt, heated and wood and leather steering wheel with audio and cruise controls, power lift gate, inside and driver's side mirrors that are auto-dimming, front wipers that are auto-sensing, chrome trim and unique grilles, side blind zone alert system, audio system with AM/FM radio, radio, CD and MP3 player, ten surround sound speakers, satellite radio, connectivity for the iPod, and navigation system with DVD based display and voice activation with real-time traffic updates. Options include a rear seat DVD entertainment system.
Specs:
The base engine in the GMC Yukon Denali 4WD is a 6.2 liter 16-valve V8 that can produce 403 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque. The transmission is a six-speed shiftable automatic. The vehicle is capable of running on regular gasoline or a combination of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. Fuel economy for the GMC Yukon Denali 4WD is 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway.
There are two four-wheel drive systems available for the GMC Yukon Denali 4WD. One version uses a system called Autotrac that can be engaged on dry pavement while the other uses low-range gearing for severe traction conditions, rugged terrains and boat ramps.
The interior design of the GMC Yukon Denali 4WD displays the elegance and simplicity of a luxury SUV. It has a rich feeling enhanced by the wood and leather wrapped steering wheel and darker wood trim than is available on other models of the Yukon.
The dashboard is clean and user-friendly and provides a wealth of gauges, displays screens, touch pads and control panels that are well integrated and very informative. Data on powertrain and other features are presented in numbers rather than as warning lights or scrollable information displays.
The leather surfaces of the GMC Yukon Denali 4WD are of high quality while the available plastic surfaces are less so. However, the front seats offer a great deal of comfort and are easy to adjust with power controls. Available second row captain's chair offer good support and are comfortable as well. In general, there is ample space for passengers in both the front and second rows of seats.
As a large SUV, the ride and handling of the GMC Yukon Denali 4WD is not agile and it tends to lean in somewhat on turns and bends. The overall ride quality is good and the 20-inch wheels add a unique design touch to the overall appearance of the vehicle.
