HUMMER SUV

The Hummer SUV was introduced as the public version of the Humvee. In 1992 the first Hummer SUV was released for sale amongst a great deal of public hype and criticism. By 1998 there were 3 different versions of the Hummer to choose from. In May of 2010 the last Hummer was produced and the vehicle manufacturer was closed down. There are still used versions on the road today. Due to poor fuel economy and large, hard to maneuver body structure the consumer lost interest in the make relatively quickly.

The H3 is the true Hummer SUV. While other models have the look and feel of the SUV, technically the only actual sport utility vehicle produced by the company was the H3. The 3.7 liter engine delivers 242 horsepower. It gets about 13 miles per gallon for city driving and about 18 miles per gallon for highway driving. The Hummer SUV seats 5 and comes with a 5 speed automatic transmission.

The towing capacity of the Hummer SUV is about 4500 pounds. Like the rest of the fleet the driver has the option of low range gears to get into some of the more serious off road driving. Safety features on the Hummer SUV include side curtain airbags, anti skid protection, traction control, and ABS brakes. For the average consumer, the safety rating of 4 out of 5 stars helped to assuage publicly made fears of poor tip over ratings.

The natural rough and tough styling of the Hummer SUV is not by accident. Designed from the military models and transformed into a street version for the consumer, there is an air of machismo intentionally driven into the design. This look is highly unique and quite distinctive for just about everyone. The popularity of the Hummer rose to include numerous countries world wide.

The high profile of the vehicle makes looking through the rear windows difficult. In order to help solve this problem the Hummer SUV came with an optional camera for rear view visual references. The camera works well, but the system only engages when the vehicle is in reverse making it nonfunctional for things like lane changes. With seating that allows for real size adults to sit comfortably in the front or the back seats, the lack of flexible seating arrangements impact the vehicle less.

With the seats in the rear fully intact the H3 can fit about 29.5 cubic feet of cargo into its hold. If you fold the rear seats down that number increases by quite a bit providing 55.7 cubic feet of cargo space. This isn't as much as many other SUVs on the market but it is typically ample for the average family to haul a few extra belongings on vacation or bring a friend and all their gear along.

The H3 is a vehicle that stands out, turns heads, and offers a very specific attitude on the roadway. While new vehicles are not available, there are definitely some good deals to be found on some used Hummers. The Hummer is a thirsty drinker at the pump but it is also one of the most eye catching vehicles you'll find.
