The 5 passenger 21012 Tucson is available in 3 trim versions; the entry level GL, GLS and limited. The GL gets you in a Tucson complete with air-conditioning, height adjustable driver's seat, 17" wheels, satellite radio, tilt only steering wheel, keyless entry, full power accessories, privacy glass, CD player with a 6 speaker sound system, iPod/USB interface with an auxiliary jack, rear seat that folds at a 60/40 split and a trip computer. The step up GLS adds built in turn signals, upgraded suspension, steering wheel wrapped in leather, upgraded trimming in the interior, heated side mirrors, audio controls affixed to the steering wheel and Bluetooth. For the GLS trim, buyers are limited to a 6 speed automatic, but can choose between an all and front wheel drive powertrain. The upper level GLS went from 0-60 in 9.5 seconds, which is definitely slow but is average for new contenders in its segment. The 2012 Tucson is outfitted with a list of standard features to include traction and stability control, hill descent control, side curtain airbags, antilock disc brakes, front side airbags, active front head restraints and a hill holder.

The 2012 came home with an overall score of "good" in roof strength, side impact and front offset tests, and was awarded with being one of the top safety picks by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. In terms of cargo space, the 2012 is no match for its rivals and 27.5 feet behind the rear sets and with them folded down, extends to 55.7 cubic feet.
