Infiniti EX 35 SUV Review
SUV Reviewer
The Infiniti EX 35 has been replaced with the Infiniti EX for the 2011 season. With excellent handling and performance, the EX 35 comes through like a different crossover altogether. It's designed as a luxury cross between an SUV, a station wagon, and a car. In order to get all of these features lined up and ready for fun, the cargo space was sacrificed and the rear leg room is a bit diminished.
The standard equipment for the Infiniti EX 35 is definitely outclassing many of the competitors when it comes to comfort, safety, and convenience for the driver and front passenger. Automatic headlights are standard, as is outside mirrors that are heated for winter visual safety. The MP3 interface is comes as standard equipment and you can add the optional air purification system known as the "plasmacluster filtration." Extra navigational aids like Bluetooth audio, restaurant guide, local fuel prices, and weather come in an optional package.
When you're looking for convenience blended with practicality the Infiniti EX 35 is a definite top pick. Unlike most crossovers the Infiniti is built with the car undercarriage platform. The typical crossover or SUV is built with either a truck platform or a modified truck platform which is why they often lack the performance details of a car. The front double wishbone suspension makes the ride extra smooth and handling a much easier (and fun) experience.
The Infiniti EX 35 comes with all wheel or rear wheel drive. All wheel drive models receive about 16 city miles to the gallon and 23 highway miles to the gallon. The rear wheel version offers 17 city miles to the gallon and 24 highway miles per gallon. Either model will go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 6.6 seconds.
Traction control, stability control, front and side airbags, and side airbag curtains for rear passengers are all standard safety equipment on the Infiniti models. Active front head restraining systems are also standard. For additional safety, one of the option packages offers Intelligent Brake Assist technology, collision warning system, and lane departure warning system. In government crash test ratings the Infiniti EX 35 received the highest marks for front impact and side impact standards.
The interior is not only inviting and warm but it also stands out from the crowd. The leather is of the highest quality and the interior has not sacrificed the performance to offer visual appeal. The rear seating arrangement is perhaps suitable for children but it definitely does not allow for the legroom necessary for a full size adult. The 18.6 cubic feet of storage space is not all that impressive and in fact is smaller than many of today's performance sedans.
Overall, the Infiniti EX 35 is an impressive crossover morphed with luxury to provide those who are seeking a higher standard with an option they can feel good about. While you won't be able to get the same sort of hauling performance from the Infiniti EX 35 you will be able to enjoy the ride and the handling while benefiting from the attention to detail offered by the design.
