The Jeep SUV has become synonymous with the term heavy duty function. While the Jeep Wrangler has never offered much in terms of cargo space, it is the ultimate off road vehicle to date. To compliment the Wrangler's rugged style and superb ability to handle the elements, Jeep SUVs were born. The Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer, Patriot, Liberty, Grand Liberty, and Compass were all developed in the same spirit as the Wrangler.
The Jeep SUV the Compass was initially brought to the showroom floor in 2007. There, it was literally mocked for its less than rugged appeal. Of course, it didn't take the designers long to figure out that the Compass was in need of an overhaul. The interior has received an entirely new design and the interior materials have been upgraded from plastic. The off road option was added for those who wanted to take this Jeep SUV out of the city and into the trail. While it is still underpowered with a 2.0 liter engine that offers only 158 horsepower, the redesign has still proven to add more appeal to one of the lesser known Jeeps on the road.
The current benchmark of the Jeep SUV family is the Grand Cherokee. While it has always been touted as a tough vehicle for the avid SUV fan, many critics complained that it lacked the power and rear seat comfort that was typically found in the competitors' models. Jeep took on the 2011 model as a challenge to address these rather less than desirable features. More passenger room makes for better outings and more cargo room makes for longer outings. The engine has been powered up, leading with 290 horsepower in a 3.6 liter engine. For the Jeep SUV family the Grand Cherokee has begun to climb full circle.
Finishing off the more popular of the vehicles in the Jeep SUV fleet is the Liberty. With loads of suspension and great ground clearance the off roading adventures with the Liberty are loaded with potential. The on road handling has been improved and user friendly features like remote start and rain sensing wipers help to make the Liberty a more popular choice. Redesigning the Liberty started with adhering to the same basics that have made the Wrangler the iconic vehicle that it is. Performance on and off road in a family friendly environment with ample power to get you there is how this Jeep SUV is getting the job done.
Overall, Jeep is a name that will always carry the SUV line to a new level. As the technology of the day is now integrated into the SUV and crossover industry, companies like Jeep are keeping up. Adding such technology makes the Jeep a multiuse vehicle with real world capabilities and real life uses. Without continual upgrades Jeep would eventually fall out of favor. For today, the upgrades are vast and found throughout every 2011 model they offer. Powering up is just the beginning. Jeep has made a commitment to improve interior design and offer the average consumer everything they have ever wanted in an off road family fun vehicle that carries a good reliability and safety record.
