Performance

Standard for the 2013 Lincoln MKT is a 3.7-liter V6 paired up with a six-speed automatic transmission that features manual shifter controls. Drivers enjoy a solid 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Even with a significant amount of power, you will still see respectable fuel-economy at 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.

Would you like to have the fuel-economy of the V6 with the performance of a V8? The EcoBoost has twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that boasts an impressive 355 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. Acceleration from zero to 60 mph is a quick 6.3 seconds, and fuel-economy is barely affected.

You can definitely tell the difference between the EcoBoost and regular models. Although they both offer a comfortable and smooth ride, EcoBoost just feels more alert, confident and responsive. The electric power-assisted steering offers pull-drift compensation so steering requires minimal effort, even in heavy crosswinds or on crowned roads. On the downside, the 42.4-foot turning circle makes the vehicle more difficult to park and maneuver than a full-size sport utility vehicle.

Technology

• Active Park Assist: Does parallel parking make you panic? Ultrasonic sensors in the MKT will tell you if a space is large enough for your vehicle. You control the gas and brake pedals and let the car do the rest.
• Push Button Start: Never again fidget to find your keys in your purse or pocket. A remote frequency is used so the vehicle knows when you are approaching to unlock your door and lets you start your car with the push of a button.

Other technology and entertainment features include SiriusXM Traffic, rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, universal remote, USB connection, iPod integration, Bluetooth and a 10-speaker audio system.

Safety

The 2013 MKT is packed full of innovative safety features, especially the EcoBoost as it offers extras like cross-traffic alert, collision warning with a brake support system, blind spot monitor and lane departure warning. Also, MyKey is standard, which allows parents to set controls for teenage drivers.

When tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, this wagon received a “Good” rating for side, roof and frontal-impact protection. Also, it can stop from 60 mph in a respectable 127 feet. Other safety features not already mentioned include:

A vista roof, adaptive headlamps, LED taillights, body-colored mirrors and door handles and stunning 20-inch wheels make the vehicle picture perfect from every angle.

Comfort

The MKT may not look all that large on the outside, but three rows of seating offers plenty of leg room for all. Also, you can choose either a six or seven-passenger configuration to accommodate your precise needs. An attractive, high-quality stitching on the seats is new for 2013, a feature that offers a great improvement in cabin appearance from previous models.

Also, new is a fresh interior styling with rich color schemes and a thoughtfully designed instrument panel that integrates the MyLincoln Touch System.

Cargo

Finding cargo space is not an issue in the MKT. Behind the third row seat, there is 17.9 cubic feet, perfect for groceries or a set of golf clubs. Folding the second and third seat down gives you 75.9 cubic feet. The only downside is that the roof is not as tall as in an SUV, so you will be limited when it comes to tall and awkward cargo.
