Mazda Tribute Hybrid SUV Review

The Mazda Tribute Hybrid was named in the top ten fuel efficient SUVs. The one thing that manufacturers said could not be done has been done and proven by SUVs like the Mazda Tribute Hybrid. An SUV can be fuel efficient and powerful at the same time. Of course, this SUV isn't perfect in every aspect, but proving the impossible opens up more possibilities down the road. At a whopping 30 real life miles to the gallon the hybrid SUV may very take on a new life of its own.

While the interior layout of the Mazda Tribute Hybrid has been complimented for its roominess and comfort, it has also been criticized for the amount of road noise and acceleration noise that can be heard from inside the cabin. At the same time the interior really doesn't have much to do with the way you might expect a Mazda to look. Except for the badge claiming its manufacturer, the clean and easy layout of the controls for air conditioning and stereo features are practically functional and well distinguished.

The third row seating is a nice touch until you want to get rid of it to open up more cargo space. Increasing the 28 cubic feet with the rear seats up to the 65 cubic feet of cargo space with them folded down shouldn't have to be a massive effort. In order to fold the 60/40 third row seating down you must be able to get the head rests off before you do anything. Once you wrestle those off (if you are physically strong enough) you then have to fold up the bottom of the seats. This is once again not an easy task. The Mazda Tribute Hybrid could very easily double as a Monday night workout machine, especially in the heat of summer. As you finally get the head rests off and the bottom of the seats folded up you may then fold the seats down flat to open up your cargo carrying capacity.

The Mazda Tribute Hybrid offers an interesting feature known as the air conditioning "economy" setting. This feature allows the SUV to automatically shut off the air conditioning during periods where the gas engine is the primary source of energy. This usually happens at stop lights, stop signs, and when stuck in heavy traffic. Of course, the Mazda Tribute Hybrid doesn't do this automatically so an August afternoon in a stand still back up will not leave you powerless to get cool.

The continuous variable transmission of the Mazda Tribute Hybrid is pretty much standard for the hybrid generation. With a single gas powered engine which is intermingled with a two electric motors have a combined output of 177 horsepower. While this is far from record shaking, it is still ample power to do the things that most SUV owners end up getting them for. The Mazda Tribute Hybrid is a great family vehicle that can take you away on vacation but might not perform well in snow conditions. You're not likely to test it out off road other than a crossing of a median or two while trying to find the right entrance ramp.
