Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class SUV Review

The 2012 Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 SUV is an iron-clad compact luxury crossover that is built like a bank vault with metallic doors, solid steering and an impenetrable feeling that the vehicle can handle any type of road condition with ease and agility. The interior is true to the well-renowned design of any Mercedes-Benz vehicle, full of straight lines with an austerity and severity that is distinctly German. Yet the quality of the interior of the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 SUV is of the best materials and design that are embellished with the latest in technology and safety features.

The Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 SUV has only one model, the GLK350. Standard features of the model include fog lamps in the front and rear, automatic headlights and wipers, automatic climate control with two zones, 19-inch alloy wheels, front seats that are powered eight ways, premium vinyl upholstery, and an audio system with six speakers, a CD player, Bluetooth connectivity and the COMAND electronics interface. There are several optional packages that can be purchased with the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 SUV. A Premium package adds driver memory functions, a power liftgate, parking sensors for the rear, a steering wheel that is power adjustable, front seats with four power adjustments and lumbar support and auto-dimming mirrors. The COMAND package adds real-time traffic, a navigation system, voice controls and storage for digital music. LED running lamps, bi-xenon headlights and washers for the headlights are part of the Lighting package while a styling package based on the AMG design adds special design features of the upscale Mercedes AMG line.

The engine in the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 SUV is a 3.5 liter V6 that is capable of producing 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Standard are rear-wheel drive and a seven-speed automatic transmission. The 4Matic moniker is added if the optional all-wheel drive is purchased. Fuel economy for Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 SUV is rated at 16 mpg in the city, 22 mpg on the highway and 18 mpg combined for the rear-wheel drive version while the highway mileage becomes 20 mpg with the all-wheel drive 4Matic option. The vehicle is reasonably fast with the ability to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds and, from a safety standpoint, can come to a stop from 60 mph in only 119 feet.

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 SUV is austere and stark and well-crafted from high quality materials. Space may be somewhat at a premium for this luxury compact with ample headroom for all passengers but with a rear seat that is better suited for adults than children. With the rear seats folded down, the cargo capacity is 54.7 cubic feet.

The ride of the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class GLK350 SUV is rock-solid, so you never really know when you are driving over a bump or pothole. Some people may find this kind of ride too firm but the vehicle can just as easily glide along highways and country roads with ease and confidence. It handles corners well and the steering is designed to provide feedback to the driver to make the ride as comfortable as possible for all passengers.
