That being said, the indestructible nature of this vehicle makes it a great choice for those headed on off-road adventures. It even moves faster than anyone would expect from a mammoth vehicle like this. That doesn't mean it handles the way most drivers would like.

While Mercedes attempts to add their own style to this SUV to make it more appropriate for consumer use, it doesn't detract from the size and unyielding look that it comes with. This can be a benefit when tackling roads and terrain that is less than forgiving, but the daily commute will never benefit and the heads that turn will be in wonder instead of awe.

It was designed to head off the beaten path and that is where it truly shines in performance. Off-roading is simple and effective. It just doesn't make much sense on the main highways.

The engine of the Mercedes-Benz GL Class G55 AMG SUV is what offers up the power and speed that it attains. This trim is complete with a supercharged 5.4 liter 500 horsepower V8. That is then mated with a five speed automatic and four wheel drive as standard. It reaches sixty miles per hour in a little over five seconds, but it blows through the fuel as it does. This vehicle only achieves 11 mpg in the city and 15 mpg on the highway. It is difficult to get much worse than that.
