The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport SUV Crossover is a newer version of an old favorite. In an attempt to create a smaller, more efficient and sporty, version of the Mitsubishi Outlander the company debuted the version to be known as the Sport. The Outlander was first manufactured in 2001 in Japan and went by the name of Airtek. It wasn't until the 2005 release of the second generation that the name Outlander was first adopted globally, including Japan. The Outlander Sport SUV had humble beginnings being known as the Mitsubishi RVR. Over the years and throughout the production of several generations, the name would change and beginning in 2010 with the 3rd generation it would be called the Outlander Sport in the United States.

Like most crossover vehicles, there was a goal behind the introduction of the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport SUV Crossover. The company wanted to add a new, sportier version to a market that combined the best of both the SUV and car markets. With the Sport, buyers would be given benefits of an SUV such as high ground clearance and all wheel drive, while still enjoying the perks of a typical family car like lower emissions and excellent fuel consumption. The Sport offers excellent gas mileage with the best numbers showing an astonishing 31 mpg. This is a large number for an SUV that has all wheel drive capabilities.

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport SUV Crossover is a compact SUV that is quite a bit smaller than the original Outlander crossover. Buyers will find about a 14 inch length difference and 2 inch height difference between the two models. In addition, the Sport weighs quite a bit less than the Outlander. Even so, what typically attracts people most is the stylish design of the Sport. Based loosely on the widely popular Lancer Evolution, the stylish curves of the Sport make it an attractive purchase. The low price of less than $19,000 to start makes it a great value. With a 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty, the value continues to increase.

The Mitsubishi Outlander Sport SUV Crossover actually feels much roomier inside than it looks. The front seats offer a substantial head and leg room for the driver and passenger. The back seat has ample room but might not feel as free as the front. A large cargo bay means that all equipment can be transported effortlessly and with effectively. Inside the cabin it is easy to see that simplicity is the key. Though the interior is fully functional, it does not offer much in the way of style. The controls are simple to use but the materials that make up the interior are at times sub-par. Still, for the price it is adequate.

It is when driving the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport SUV Crossover that one is able to tell whether they will be satisfied with it. The smaller motor doesn't offer nearly as much power as many of the competitors, acceleration is not as fast as most would like and the steering leaves a lot to be desired. Most sports models come with a bigger thrill when behind the wheel, but it is satisfactory for someone that wants substantial fuel savings, extra space and the economy cost. While it is a comfortable ride, the Sport is not a crossover designed for the performance enthusiasts. However, for a smaller family SUV it will suit all needs.
