Performance

It is no surprise that one of the main selling points of the 2013 Nissan Rogue Crossover SUV is its outstanding fuel economy as a front-wheel drive, it returns 23 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, and even in an all-wheel drive, these numbers barely move, with an average of 24 mpg combined. That being said, while you get great gas mileage, you don’t get a ton of power. The vehicle is equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine delivers 170 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. Although this does not sound like much, it can accelerate zero to 60 mph in 8.6 seconds, which is quicker than some other four-cylinder crossovers in this segment. Both front and all-wheel drive models get a continuously variable transmission that is virtually gearless and unbelievably smooth. When you get behind the wheel, you may be surprised at just how smooth the ride is for a crossover in this price point. A very small turning circle of 37.4 feet makes it easy to maneuver and park while handling remains composed even at high speeds. Unfortunately, the cabin could be a little quieter.

Technology

• Audio - A BOSE® audio system includes a subwoofer, eight speakers, CD player, MP3 playback capability, Radio Data System, speed sensitive volume control, iPod interface, USB connection and auxiliary audio input jack.
• SiriusXM - Every new 2013 Rogue comes with a 3-month trial subscription of SiriusXM Satellite Radio as well as NavTraffic and NavWeather.
• Navigation - Get help finding where you need to be with the optional navigation system, which uses a 5-inch color touchscreen monitor.
• Bluetooth - Send, receive and end calls without taking your eyes off the road or hands off the wheel.
• Nisan Intelligent Key - The keyless entry and ignition system lets you start your car on those cold mornings without walking outside.

Safety

When tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the 2013 Rogue scored a “Good” rating in side and frontal-offset protection. However, it was rated second best as “Acceptable” when roof-strength was tested. Six standard air bags, an energy absorbing steering column, steel side door beams and crumple zones in the front and rear help to keep passengers safe. Other safety features include:
• Tire pressure monitoring
• Hood buckling creases
• LATCH system for children
• Active head restraints
• Front seatbelt pretensioners
• Traction control system
• Vehicle dynamic control
• Emergency braking assist
• Stability control
• Engine immobilizer
• Rear door safety locks

Appearance

The Nissan Rogue looks a lot like a super-sized hatchback, and that is quite alright because it works! UV reducing solar glass is a nice complement to the rear privacy glass while chrome provides an abundance of highlights on the grille, handles and body side moldings. Its curvaceous styling will turn a head or two on the road for sure!

Comfort

Seating for five is provided with plenty of room but although the front seats are quite comfortable, the rear set is definitely lacking. Passengers may need an extra few stops to get out and stretch on a road trip. It would also help if the seat would recline or slide, which it doesn’t. The cabin is surprisingly sophisticated, especially for a vehicle priced this low. Materials throughout are all high-quality and controls are thoughtfully placed. This is also a huge glove box and a very smart under-floor organizer to store essentials like emergency gear, first-aid kid, etc.

Cargo

Cargo space is average for this class. Behind the rear seat, Rogue offers 28.9 cubic feet. If you need a little more space, fold the seat down for 59.7 cubes. One very cool point is that the front passenger seat folds so you can easily haul a surfboard, snowboard or ladder inside.
