Ford Escape Review
Since its inception, the Ford Escape XLS FWD has been one of the best selling small SUVs in the U.S. Considering the competition in this market and that many of them were around long before the Ford Escape XLS FWD, this is an impressive fete. Ford seems to have a knack for designing SUVs that appeal to a wide range of consumers, even when the vehicles themselves may not be class leaders! With the Escape XLS FWD, Ford have made a crossover, that on paper at least, ticks all the boxes. It is a macho four wheel drive styling combined with the running costs and footprint of a mid-sized sedan. As a practical urban runabout with the capability of doing some light off roading and towing at the weekends, the Ford Escape is a great choice. However, there have been no significant revisions to the model for a few years, just some cosmetic teaks and general freshening up. Unless we see a major update, the Escape's days at the top of the sales charts could be numbered. The more modern crossovers are sleeker, more refined and are much nicer to drive. The enduring appeal of the Ford Escape cannot compete in present form for much longer. The basic platform and running gear were derived from a project with Mazda (the Mazda Tribute is virtually identical to the Ford Escape) and that's no bad thing - Mazda have a reputation for building well engineered and reliable vehicles.
