Ford Expedition

Review

The Expedition is, according to Ford, the Flagship of Ford SUVs. Featuring a 300 hp 5.4L Triton V8 engine delivering 90% of its prodigious torque (365 lb-ft) below 2000rpm, with a massive 9,200lb towing capacity, this is a real muscle SUV. The Triton engine can also run on E85 (85% ethanol). It is also reassuring to note that the Ford Expedition XLT has received the highest 5-star frontal crash test rating award from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for the last nine years in a row. With a third row of seating and the "powerfold" system, 8 or 9 adults can be accommodated in comfort. New for 2009 are a programmable garage-door opener, and a reverse-sensing system for that extra sense of luxury. The Ford Expedition XLT 4X2 is a solid, capable and luxurious performer in the full size SUV arena. Perhaps the only downfall is the power. Powerful as the Triton V8 is, it can't really hustle the Expedition along. This is no sports SUV. But, if you are not in a hurry and need to tow, or transport up to 8 people around on a regular basis, then the Expedition is a great way to do it.
