The Ford Flex is a new entry model into Ford's existing SUV stable on the showroom floor. The Ford Flex SE model features three rows of seats, with flexible layout options (2-3-2 or 2-2-2). The mechanicals and running gear come from the Taurus X. This makes it a car derived SUV, as opposed to being derived from a truck; this gives the Ford Flex SE the driving characteristics of a sedan. The Ford Flex SE FWD is larger than an Escape or Edge although the monocoque frame makes it lower and more car like than the Explorer or Expedition. Flex customers are those who require more room than the compact SUV's, but don't need the off road abilities or towing capacity of a full size SUV. The Ford Flex SE is also styled to look more modern and less aggressive, an altogether more stylish vehicle than a traditional truck. if this vehicle had been produced 20 years ago, it would have been called a station wagon, and effectively, that's what it is. However the PR and marketing guru's definitely want us to think of this as a crosscover or CUV (crossover utility vehicle). The Ford Flex SE FWD is in direct competition with the likes of the Buick Enclave, GMC Arcadia, Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Saturn Outlook and Chevy Traverse. All of these vehicles have something to offer and as always make sure you do some research before making your choice. The official fuel figures for the Ford Flex SE FWD are 17mpg city/24mpg highway.
