GMC SUVs 2010

The General Motors Corporation GMC (trades on NYSE: GM) was originally created in Michigan as a holding company for Buick in 1908. Since those humble beginnings General Motors has become a huge automobile manufacturer with operations worldwide and owns brands such as Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Holden, Hummer, Opel, Pontiac, Saturn, Saab and Vauxhall. Like all U.S. manufacturers General Motors has been in financial difficulties in recent years, partly down to the emergence (and acceptance by growing numbers of Americans) of Japanese and Korean vehicles taking market share, but also General motors is still suffering from "legacy" payments. These were deals made with unions prior to financial problems, involving payments made to retired workers and even those who had lost jobs due to technology. Despite these factors, General Motors is still committed to research and development to make their vehicles more compact and fuel efficient to be able to compete in future markets. According to General Motors - "Future GM vehicles will be mobile platforms for the electronics and software that control vehicle performance, and provide active safety systems and wireless access to a wide range of information and entertainment". There is no doubt that General Motors needs to do something to maintain/regain market share as the figures make for scary reading - their market share has plummeted from over 40% in the 1980's, to less than 25% today. The General Motors SUV range (GMC Acadia, GMC Yukon and GMC Envoy) has only one hybrid, the GMC Yukon Hybrid, which is General Motors first real hybrid vehicle and this only went into production in 2008 - this is a poor performance from the biggest auto manufacturer in the U.S. and has led to many negative criticisms of GM executives in the media.
