The Jeep Commander is the largest SUV produced by Jeep and the first model to seat seven. In Sport trim the Commander is fitted with a 210-hp 3.7L V6 and five-speed automatic transmission. Due to its sheer size, the Commander is not as able in the rough stuff as Jeep's smaller models. However, when compared to other SUVs of the same size and weight, the Jeep Commander Sport is a great off road vehicle. The "Sport" models are the entry level model in terms of equipment, as standard you have all the basics such as - power windows and locks, powered drivers seat, A/C and a CD player. If you like your SUVs fully loaded, the "Sport" specification is not for you! This Commander model with the smaller 3.7L engine has been criticised for lethargic performance (higher specification models such as the "Limited" come with more powerful V8's as standard). Interior dimensions are a disappointment also, despite the Commander's large exterior size. The interior - particularly the cargo space and third row seats - is less than generous. This is no doubt, however, that the use of a solid rear axle, generous ground clearance and suspension travel makes the Commander so good as an all terrain vehicle.
