Nissan Pathfinder

Review

The Nissan Pathfinder S 4X2 is the entry level 2 wheel drive version of Nissan's 7 seat SUV. It is powered by a 4.0L, 266 horsepower V6 with 5-speed automatic transmission. Standard features on the "S" model include ABS, traction control, stability control, 16-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, a CD stereo, powered seats, dual front and side airbags. Side curtain airbags for all three rows are an option on this model but standard on SE. The powerful V6 engine gives a good towing capacity of 6000lbs. With a ground clearance of 9.1 inches, combined with steep approach and departure angles, the Pathfinder is a very capable vehicle off road. On road the ride and handling are merely average for the class, no doubt a result of the Pathfinder's truck based origins. The Nissan Pathfinder S was awarded a maximum score of 5 stars in both front and side impact crash tests by the NHTSA. Interior space is below par with both second and third row seating being cramped - the rear most seats are definitely for kids only. If you regularly drive on mountain trails and rutted farm tracks then the Nissan Pathfinder would be an able companion.
