The latest model Subaru Tribeca crossover has had a cosmetic makeover and a new more powerful engine, in an effort to give the unusual Tribeca some mainstream appeal. The new 3.6L flat-six boxer engine (up from 3.0L) now provides 256 horsepower and more useful torque lower down in the rev range. Despite the bigger engine, fuel economy is slightly improved at 16mpg city/21mpg highway. With a new lighter five-speed automatic transmission as standard, the Tribeca is a little quicker of the mark than the outgoing model. Four wheel drive is standard with 8.4 inches of ground clearance but Subaru make no claims about the Tribeca being a serious off roader. Rather, the Tribeca is focused on offering safe all weather performance. The interior retains its contemporary looks and high quality feel. A full complement of safety equipment is fitted and the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) recently highlighted the Tribeca as one of the picks for safety in the class. The Tribeca will seat seven, but things can get a little snug in the back row, however access is good. Maximum towing capacity is a useful 3500 lb.
