Suzuki Grand Vitara

Review

The Grand Vitara is the smallest offering from Suzuki. The "Grand" name is a little misleading as this SUV is on the small side (in fact some amusingly refer to the Grand Vitara as a "trucklet"). This entry level rear wheel drive model comes with a 2.7L V6 producing 185 horsepower and a five speed manual gearbox. The Grand Vitara Base basis models include as standard climate control, cruise control, keyless entry, powered windows and doors, an MP3/CD stereo and a six CD changer. The Grand Vitara loses ground in terms of suspension and its engine is excessive in terms of wind and road noise. There is also a distinct lack of storage in the cabin, something SUV owners demand in their vehicles. The cabin is elegantly appointed however and Suzuki do offer a 7 year/100,000 miles powertrain warranty. The Vitara does not fare well when compared to the competition such as the Honda CR-V, Nissan Rogue, Saturn Vue and Toyota RAV4. It is outclassed in all areas except perhaps off road ability. The Grand Vitara is surprisingly good in the rough stuff. Despite its diminutive size there is a truck like, full ladder chassis under that cute bodywork.
