The Toyota Highlander was completely revised for 2009. The latest version has more cargo and passenger space and features a more powerful (and economical) engine. The new 3.5L V6 engine fitted as standard has a large power hike over the outgoing model. Rated at 270 horsepower (previous engine 215HP) the performance is transformed. Incredibly, fuel economy has actually slightly improved. The five-speed transmission is creamy smooth and down shifts seamlessly to provide ample passing power. This base front wheel drive model achieves 18mpg city/24mpg highway. The Toyota Highlander is a crossover SUV, meaning it is produced on a car platform, rather than a truck design. The Highlander's cabin is quiet and refined with plentiful storage options and cup holders (10 in total!). The ride is smooth and, as you would expect, car like. Standard equipment on the base model include air conditioning, cloth upholstery, three-row seating for up to seven, a fold-flat third row, AM/FM/CD with MP3 capability, powered windows, door locks, and mirrors, keyless entry, cruise control and 17 inch alloy wheels.
