Toyota RAV4

Review

The marketplace today is awash with compact SUVs or crossovers. But Toyota was one of the early pioneers with the RAV4 back in 1996. The base model RAV4 comes equipped with a 2.4L, 166hp four cylinder engine, coupled with a four-speed automatic transmission. The base version also has to make do with and steel wheels as alloys are a cost option. Safety features include stability and traction control, airbags, and tire pressure monitoring. Remote keyless entry, power windows and locks, and a AM/FM CD player are also standard features. The cabin is light and airy, offering good all round visibility. It provides light steering and smooth controls which makes the RAV4 easy and relaxing to drive. The RAV4 is a heavy vehicle at 3300lbs and really could use some extra power and an extra gear. The V6 versions of the RAV4 are currently setting the benchmarks in the segment for crossovers. However, this base 4 cylinder version is not in the same class. Moving up the range gives more power, smoother engine, 5 speed transmission and larger 17 inch wheels. However, this base model does offer reliable, efficient and hassle free motoring at a bargain price.
