Volkswagen Touareg 2

Review

The Volkswagen Touareg 2 VR6 FSI is solidly built and well engineered. The perception of build quality and solidity is almost a trademark of the VW/Audi group. The VR6 engine provides 280 horsepower through a six-speed automatic transmission. Despite the 5000lb curb weight, the VR6 engine gives the Touareg better acceleration than you'd expect and runs smoothly and vibration free right up to the redline. Torque is rated at 265 pound-feet and produces from 2500 to 5000 rpm - this low to midrange torque is actually more useful than outright power in everyday driving. Towing up to 7,000 pounds, the Touareg can be used as a serious workhorse rather than a prestige vehicle. The VR6 model has the smoothest ride of the Touareg range due to smaller tires and softer suspension. This is the perfect set up for the Touareg - the optional larger wheels and low profile tires actually spoil the ride. The Touareg is quiet and refined, making a great long distance cruiser. However the sophisticated 4XMotion four-wheel-drive system along with a host of electronic aids gives the Touareg genuine off road ability.
