When the Suzuki Sidekick emerged on the scene in 1988, the population could not get enough of it. It was fresh and different, but not always as practical as one would hope for. It was available as either a hard or soft top, and it came with four-wheel drive, but it was not like the push button four-wheel drive vehicles of today. You had to physically get out of your vehicle to engage it, which was quite a pain. The original Sidekick was definitely flawed, especially with rollover issues, similar to the Chevy Tracker. However, if it wasn’t for this, the sport utility vehicle world would not know what measures to take to ensure these larger vehicles could take corners and winding roads with ease. Years later, the Suzuki line has matured significantly, yet it has not seen a huge price increase like what is seen in other manufacturers.
The 2013 Suzuki SX4 Hatchback has a whole lot to offer, and with a starting MSRP of only $16,999, it is hard to pass up. Still, SX4 has been somewhat of an underdog until this point, which could have something to do with the fact that it falls in one of the most competitive segments against Hyundai Accent and Ford Fiesta.
This crossover hatchback is powered by a lively 148 horsepower four-cylinder engine, with optional all-wheel drive. So, while this vehicle will not win you any races or take you to the heart of the wilderness, it will be easy on your wallet, returning as much as 30 mpg on the highway.
SX4 Hatchback is available as a Base, Premium or Technology Value Package. The most significant features that the higher trims give you include a leather wrapped steering wheel, voice activated GPS, Bluetooth with audio streaming, audio controls on the steering wheel, heated front seats, alloy wheels, fog lights and a rear bumper brush guard.
The other vehicle in the Suzuki lineup of SUVs for 2013 is the Grand Vitara. Starting at only $19,949, this compact SUV is a worthy competitor against Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV. Grand Vitara is available as a Base, Premium or Limited trim with four-wheel drive not being an option on the Base model.
A strong 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine offers fantastic fuel economy. This five-passenger cabin is attractive and comfortable without being overdone. There is certainly more than enough room to stretch your legs out no matter which row you are in. headroom is in abundance as well.
A Base model gives you power accessories, reclining rear seats, four-speaker audio system, USB connection and available navigation with real time traffic and Bluetooth wireless data link. Premium adds on an automatic transmission, cruise control, 16-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass and heated outside mirrors. For just a little more money, Grand Vitara Limited starts at only $24,449, and gives you pretty much everything, including chrome body side accents, full-size spare, fog lights, roof rack rails, 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, heated front seats and premium seven-speaker sound system.
