Volvo SUV

A Volvo SUV literally translates into \"I roll\" sport utility vehicle. However, the irony is that the Volvo was founded, based, and built entirely on the mechanics of safety. Safety minded vehicles was the goal of the Swedish borne car company. Since 1927 the manufacturer has gone to great lengths to ensure that people who purchase their vehicles have a better than average chance of surviving an accident when compared to other vehicles.

Volvo continued to create safe cars and in the 1980s added features that were previously unheard of. Rear facing child seats and steering columns that would collapse during a crash were just two of the safety innovations that became an instant favorite of the \"yuppie\" generation. The move into a Volvo SUV would mean extensive safety research in order to keep those high ratings and offer additional security to consumers. Of course, the company also pumped out turbocharged engines and spent just as much energy giving the vehicles a fun to drive feel.

The 1990s would be a little harder for Volvo and Ford Motor Company stepped in to provide financial help in exchange for safety innovation ideas. The move into the Volvo SUV helped sales some, and the XC60 offered superior handling as well as safety. There are lots of great features on the XC60. One in particular still stumps many manufacturers. The City Safety system will automatically brake when there is an imminent collision and yet it will not brake during times when a slow moving collision is not about to happen.

As a luxury crossover the Volvo SUV XC60 offers ample style, the option of a Turbocharged 3.0 liter inline 6 under the hood for a whopping 300 horsepower, and optional all wheel drive. The long list of standard equipment gives the impression that this luxury SUV is one of the overpriced models when in fact it is simply not. At $33000 to start, this Volvo SUV is affordable and creates a luxury family vehicle that is smart enough to come with a Collision Avoidance system.

The other Volvo SUV is the XC90. This mid size model is loaded with safety features and is definitely a compelling choice for families. The designers pay attention to the child friendly features just as much as every other detail. It is a luxury SUV that acknowledges that children deserve the luxury as well.

With seven passenger seating, a $38000 base price, and a six speed automatic transmission there is room for all and the power to get everyone there. A 4.4 liter V8 spits out 311 horsepower and gets the XC90 from 0 to 60 in only 7.6 seconds. The safety features that the Volvo SUV is known for are listed almost exclusively as standard features. Yet, there are critics who say the safety leader is watching the rest of the pack catch up.

The future of the Volvo SUV as well as the rest of the vehicles produced under the name is one that is still up in the air. When the economic crisis of 2010 hit the auto industry at a devastatingly high speed, Volvo was sold by the Ford Motor Company to the Chinese brand Greeley. Many anticipate changes while devoted fans hope for a continued line of excellence and safety.
