The XC70 is a small to medium sized crossover SUV that has been produced by Volvo since 1997, coming from the same strain as their S series of sedans. Since its launch, the Volvo XC 70 has gone through a series of revamps and updates with the current Series Three version being introduced by Volvo in early 2007.
A comfortable five seater four door crossover SUV, the Volvo XC70 has earned itself a rightful share of the glowing hot compact luxury crossover market, thanks to its winning blend of sleek lines and Volvo's safety features for which the company has become so well known and trusted over the years.
The Volvo XC70 premium crossover SUV comes with a choice of two engines, either a 3.2 liter transversely mounted inline-6 cylinder that generates 240 horsepower and 236 pound per feet of torque, or their inordinately more powerful T6 version that comes with a 3.0 liter turbo-charged transversely mounted inline 6 cylinder engine providing a massive 300 horsepower and 325 pounds per feet of torque. Either option comes with a six speed automatic transmission including manual shift control. The 3.2 series comes with standard front wheel drive, with those preferring all wheel drive can take up the option, while the T6 comes with all wheel drive as standard. The Volvo XC70 continues to be as quiet, comfortable and stable to drive as its predecessors and stable mates, capable of holding its own on and off the road, with its four wheel independent suspension making for an easy ride.
As far as driver usability and passenger comfort, the Volvo XC70 is far from being found lacking. 75 inches in width, with a wheel base of 108 inches and a height of 67 inches, the XC70 has more than enough space for all. Back seat passengers will enjoy more than ample head and leg room, with a comfortable journey guaranteed no matter the distance on the XC70' s in a 40/20/40 split rear bench.
Cargo carrying is a cakewalk with the Volvo XC70 starting at just more than 33 cubic foot with everything in place, rising to 71 cubic feet of cargo carrying capacity with the back seats folded. Loading and unloading the XC70 is also a piece of cake, thanks to its exceptionally wide opening tailgate. And if the Volvo XC70's maximum payload of around 1350 pounds is not enough, the Crossover can also tow another 3,300 pounds.
