Performance

There is an awful lot to love about the 2013 Lincoln MKX SUV, and for many people it starts and ends with what is under the hood. The 3.7-liter V6 engine mates with a six-speed automatic transmission that offers manual shifting capabilities. It produces an impressive 305 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, helping it accelerate zero to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds. While this might be slower than other luxury sport utility vehicles in this class, MKX also returns better fuel economy than many as well. Front wheel drive gives you 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway while all-wheel drive models return 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. Even as a V6, this SUV can tow 3,500 pounds. Handling is a special treat as the steering is responsive and nicely weighted. Plus, it has a polite 39.3-cubic-foot turning circle that makes it easier to park and maneuver than you might expect. To top it off, its four-wheel independent suspension ensures a smooth ride for all passengers.

Technology

• Audio - A THX® II Certified Audio System comes standard. It features 650 watts of power, 14 speakers, one subwoofer, CD player and MP3 capability. HD radio is also available.
• Navigation - Add on this available system with GPS, SiriusXM Travel Link and SiriusXM Traffic for directions, 3D mapping, weather, sport scores, gas station locations and more.
• SYNC - This voice-activated technology gives you hands-free calling, 911 assist, voice/touch climate control and more. Although incredibly overwhelming at first, you can ultimately control nearly every element of your vehicle by voice, so you never have to take your hands off the wheel.

Safety

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rates the MKX “Good” in side and frontal-impact protection, but roof-strength scored the second best rating of “Acceptable.” Also, when an MKX with 20-inch wheels was brake tested, it took 133 feet to stop from 60 mph, which is pretty long and disappointing. The vehicle does have a lot of thoughtful safety features though, including:

Appearance

It is hard not to feel your heart do a little flutter the first time that you see the 2013 MKX. Fortunately, the exterior pretty much remains unchanged, as consumers tend to love its aerodynamic styling, sloped roof, privacy glass, show-stopping wheels and iconic grille. On the downside, some consumers are getting a little bored with all the chrome that Lincoln insists on embellishing its vehicles in.

Comfort

The passenger cabin is just as attractive and modern as the vehicle’s exterior. Quality materials throughout are complemented by real aluminum accents. On the downside, the MyLincoln Touch interface is overwhelming. There are three display screens, and you can create unique commands for specific elements, so you will need to be prepared to invest a significant amount of time becoming friends with this feature. Both rows offer ample leg and head room for even tall passengers. The seats are supportive and comfortable, so even adults in the back will not be complaining after a long drive.

Cargo

Behind the second row there is 32.3 cubic feet of cargo space, which is more than what most need. Now, if you need a vehicle that provides an abundance of cargo space behind the first row, you will be better off with Lexus RX350 or Acura MDX, as MKX only grants 69 cubic feet total.
