Mazda SUV Reviews

Some may be missing the Mazda CX-7 this year in the lineup, but others will agree that between the CX-5 and CX-9, there is a sport utility vehicle by this manufacturer for everyone. For a very long time, Mazda was once thought of as a one trick pony; known solely for its coveted Miata. Well, while the Miata is still very much in production, consumers have come to realize that this manufacturer has a lot more to offer than just a sporty little two-seater.

Mazda has become a respected name in the world of SUVs. They create vehicles that are sporty and attractive, without being overdone. They may not take you over the roughest terrain to the heart of the wilderness, but they will definitely get you through the mud and snow on the path less traveled. Mazda makes sport utility vehicles that score perfectly in crash tests, excel in braking tests and have a lot of thoughtful features. Above everything else; they are surprisingly affordable!

In the compact crossover segment, you have the CX-5, priced just right with a starting MSRP of $20,695. Available as Sport, Touring and Grand Touring, CX-5 competes against Kia Sportage, Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4 and Ford Escape, with enough options and packages to make anyone excited.

A peppy 155-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine receives best in class remarks, when it comes to fuel economy, returning up to 33 mpg on the highway. This is a crossover that is as fun to drive as it looks; hugging the road around turns while delivering a smooth ride.

Standard equipment on CX-5 includes 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, iPod/USB audio interface and power accessories. Sport upgrades the sound system and adds a Bluetooth Audio package. For just a bit more money, Touring starts at $23,845, and gives you a blind-spot warning system, leather-wrapped steering wheel and offers the option of a TomTom navigation system.

A Moonroof/Bose package becomes available as well. For the top-of-the-line option, Grand Touring bumps the wheels to 19 inches, adds leather upholstery and throws in all the bells and whistles.

If you need an exceptional people or cargo-hauler, CX-9 is everything you want in a family-friendly crossover. Its spacious third row makes seven-passenger seating a possibility for adults, not just small children. With its strong 273 horsepower V6 engine, smooth ride and sharp handling, it’s no surprise why CX-9 is regarded as stiff competition for GMC Acadia Chevrolet Traverse, Buick Enclave and Ford Flex. Plus, since it is priced right, starting at $29,785, those looking at small vehicles like the Ford Explorer and Dodge Durango can’t help but consider this option for the versatile CX-9.

This attractive SUV is available in Sport, touring and Grand Touring trims, all with their unique features and available packages. Chrome dual exhaust, wrap around tailgates and available 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels turn heads on the road, while drivers appreciate the optional rain-sensing windshield, heated side mirrors and power lift gate.

In the spacious cabin, you are greeted with comfortable seats, cavernous cargo space and a multitude of technology features, thoughtfully placed on its modern dashboard. Whether you need to haul seven passengers or not, it is hard not to consider this SUV.
