Bentley’s SUV receives the Final Nod!
After being two ways about the new Bentley SUV that the company had revealed at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show for a long time, the Volkswagen Group has finally given green light for the production of the vehicle. Rumors about this news had been spread a few months ago when an anonymous employee of Bentley Motors revealed that the company had assured employees with jobs for the production of the new SUV. The employee also said that the company has been preparing vigorously for the production. However, these rumors have now been confirmed as the company itself declared the news to the SUV World.
Although unnamed till now, the new Bentley SUV will be based on the EXP 9 that the company had revealed at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The company said that the SUV will go many minor changes before it goes under production. Bentley made clear that the SUV will look similar to the EXP 9 Concept, but not the same. The concept model had received mixed reviews, but Bentley hopes of gaining appreciation after the vehicle has been produced. Whatever it is, the SUV is going to be mind-blowing! We are talking about a Bentley after all!
Experts anticipate that the SUV will be out in the markets for consumers within a time frame of 3 years. The manufacturing plant in Slovakia which is owned by the Volkswagen Group will be used possibly for the production of the SUV. Just like its sibling, the amazing Bentley Continental GT, this SUV is expected to come in models boasting of V8 and W12 engines. The new SUV will surely be very fast and powerful, and expensive as well. Yes, that’s right. The new SUV is bound to be expensive, it’s a Bentley we’re talking about after all! Again!
An interesting thing to note here is that Volkswagen still hasn’t given a nod to another of its subsidiary, Lamborghini’s new SUV concept, Urus. The group has to make some vital decisions before discarding or approving the Urus. However, even though the Urus is not up for production yet, Lamborghini didn’t refrain from protesting when the patented design of the model was stolen and heavily similar designs were submitted in China. This might point towards a green light for the production of the Urus!
If not Urus, then Volkswagen has at least given the Bentley SUV the final nod. We expect of seeing another magnificent beast like Bentley running down the streets soon! The new Bentley SUV would face fierce competition from other luxury SUVs which include names like Porsche Cayenne, Volkswagen Touareg, etc. Following Bentley’s footsteps, Rolls Royce has also planned of launching its own SUV. The new Bentley will hence, see immense competition from here as well. If Volkswagen shows green light to the production of the Urus, then the SUV market will feature three of the most elegant SUVs – The new Bentley SUV, the Rolls Royce SUV and the Lamborghini Urus. There is nothing to fret about from now! There are a solid 3 to 4 years before these veihcles come out in the market!
Status Symbol SUVs: Luxury Re-defined
Today’s luxury SUVs aren’t only about comfort. In the best examples, you’ll both find refinement and the latest technologies, mixed with the classic amenities one would expect to find on an automobile that’s defined as being in the “luxury” class. From full-size SUVs to smaller crossover models, some are fancy enough to redefine what it means to own a luxury SUV.
So, which models are really pushing the envelope in terms of luxury this year? Among some of the top contenders are the 2013 Land Rover Range Rover and 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The Range Rover is truly the original luxury SUV, and it’s involved into the ideal premium off-roader over the years. The Supercharged model represents the Range Rover in its most opulent form, though the Range Rover Autobiography (special edition) is beyond incredible with its predominately hand-finished luxury interior.
The Range Rover Sport is smaller than the standard Rover, but it has an interior that would put luxury hotels to shame. This model somehow manages to seamlessly blend a sporty style with high-class touches, and, like its bigger brother, is offered in both naturally-aspirated and Supercharged model options.
Also on deck for 2013 is the always-impressive BMW X5. Though some might consider the X6 model to be more luxurious, I can’t help but be a bit disappointed by this year’s model and consider the BMW X6 to be the more impressive of the two. The versatile BMW X5 SUV is just as at home dropping kids off at soccer practice as it is on the race track, and it features some of the most impressive engines available on the market today. This year’s X5 comes with a remarkable three engine choices: two of which are the brand’s six-and eight-cylinder gasoline engines, and the amazingly fuel-efficient six-cylinder diesel option.
Though the 2013 Acura MDX isn’t quite as pricey as the other vehicles mentioned, this crossover SUV isn’t any less impressive. With its exceptionally refined handling (paired with standard all-wheel drive), comfortable and well-appointed interior, and an array of the latest technology features, this year’s MDX certainly stacks up to the competition. It even has seating for seven, though its fuel economy ratings are rather low, coming in at 16 mpg city/ 21 mpg highway.
If you’re looking for an upscale, comfortable mid-size SUV with excellent performance features, you may want to consider the 2013 Volkswagen Touareg, a great-performing SUV with power and fuel economy that are set to impress. There’s a diesel engine available which achieves an impressive 20 mpg city/ 29 mpg highway or a standard V6 engine that’s paired with an eight-speed automatic and achieves 17 mpg city/23 mpg highway. The Touareg’s cabin is full of high-quality materials and an incredibly attractive design. It offers a range of equipment (which is impressive even at the base level).
