6 Revelations About The 2018 Volkswagen Touareg
During a special ceremony in Beijing on Friday, Volkswagen released a redesigned Touareg, marking the very special relationship the European company has with China, which it considers its second home.
1. New Flagship Of The VW Brand
This third-generation Touareg is being put in the upmarket level seeing as it recently became the new flagship of the VW brand. Previously, that role was with the Phaeton but the full-size sedan was already discontinued in 2016. An electric successor is being planned, but that won’t come into fruition until the next decade.
2. Wider And More Dynamic Look
Compared to its predecessor, the outgoing model, the new Touareg has a wider look and it’s also bigger. It’s three inches longer than before, now standing at 192 inches. It’s also 1.7 inches wider at 78 inches and 0.3 inches shorter at only 67 inches.
3. MLB Platform
The curb weight has been reduced by as much as 233 pounds in some variants, thanks to VW’s version of the MLB platform, which features multi-material construction and used by Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne. The main benefits are air suspension, roll stabilization, and rear-wheel steering.
4. Plush Interior
The cabin of the new Touareg is as luxurious as others in the game. It has a digital dash with a 12.0-inch screen that is now the instrument cluster. There’s also a 15-inch infotainment hub. For safety features, there’s the automatic emergency braking, driver fatigue warning, and a night vision camera. Overall, VW calls the cabin design “Innovision Cockpit.”
5. Drivetrain Options
The Touareg will go on sale this summer in Europe. Depending on the market, there will be choices of two 3.0-liter V-6 diesels, producing 228 and 282 horsepower, respectively, and a 3.0-liter V-6 gasoline delivering 335 horsepower. There will also be a plug-in hybrid setup with 362 horsepower for the Chinese market. There are also news that a 4.0-liter V-8 diesel producing 415 horsepower will come as another option.
Standard to these engines are an 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive with a center differential lock. Some extras are available, care of a special off-road pack that adds extra driving modes, a larger fuel tank, and under body protection.
6. Release Dates And Locations
The new Touareg won’t be coming to the United States. The local division of VW in the US dropped the model at the end of the 2017 model year because of low sales and the decision to focus on the Atlas.
4 Things We Learned About the New Volkswagen Touareg
New spy photos of the new 2018 Volkswagen Touareg while it was undergoing testing surfaced online. The subject in the photos shows a design similar to the Touareg in the market today, but there are several cosmetic updates noticeable in the auto.
Check out the four things we learned about the 2018 Volkswagen Touareg from Motor1.com:
1. Platform
The Touareg uses the MLB Evo platform of Volkswagen. The architecture is also being used by the Audi Q7 luxury SUV.
2. Design
The third-generation Touareg appears to carry many styling elements found in the Volkswagen T-Prime Concept GTE SUV that was showcased at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show. Several enhancements are expected in the taped areas of the SUV’s headlamps and front grille though. Some portions of the sides show some thin strips too, which indicate upgrades. The rear reveal some stickers hiding the taillights as well. In addition, the upcoming vehicle sports twin exhaust tips.
Not much can be said about the interior of the Touareg for now as there are no clearer spy shots in its cabin yet. But like its exterior, its is possible that Volkswagen will just carry over the features of the SUV’s outgoing model.
Overall, the new Touareg retained the looks of its predecessor. However, Volkswagen seems to have ramped up its features a bit to address some of the blandness exhibited by its outgoing model.
3. Launching
The 2018 Touareg will probably debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It is likely that an online reveal of the auto will come before the said event.
4. Assembly
The next Touareg will be made in the Bratislava, Slovakia assembly plant of Volkswagen. The production of the vehicle will commence in November this year.

2014 Volkswagen Touareg – Better Than Ever!
As legendary of a SUV that it has been, the all new Volkswagen Touareg just got better! The company had been making some very pronounced changes to its beautiful fleet of cars, and the Touareg has also been incorporated in the list. The SUV was recently given the face change making it closer in looks to the other popular Volkswagen cars like the Passat and the Jetta. Other than the interiors, the SUV also enjoys beautiful interior changes, making it even more luxurious than before. However, the Touareg remains to be quite expensive, putting it in competition with the members of the luxury SUV segment.
Apparently, Volkswagen wanted to give the Touareg a lesser of an off road build and more suited for urban needs. The SUV had been somewhat infamous for being quite heavy earlier. However, the fine German engineers have made extreme changes to the body of the machine, managing to chop off over 450 pounds from the previous weight. This has definitely brought about desirable changes to the SUV, as its ride quality has increased many folds. Being sportier than ever, the Touareg will now appeal to younger customers as well. Besides the ride quality, the machine now delivers a much improved fuel economy as well!
Even though the Touareg is lighter than before, there is no virtual reduction in power and the SUV still sports the truck like capabilities that it is famous for. The vehicle is still as capable when it comes to towing facilities as it was before. Among the interior changes, the company has raised the height of the front seats, enhancing the view for the driver. Also, the Touareg remains to be a five seater, where the second row is highly adjustable. The changes in the body include dimensional changes as the SUV is now broader and more spacious. The lack of a third row paves way for a huge and extremely spacious cargo space.
The 2014 Touareg also offers a very large number of luxurios features in the interiors. The base sport model only boasts of features like panoramic sunroof, memory seats and leather upholstery. Higher models include many modern features like heated steering wheels, rear obstacle detection, premium audio systems, keyless usage and heated rear seats. The front console sports a navigation system, upgraded displays and built in music storage facility.
The 2014 Touareg would come in four primary models. These would be the Sport, Sport with Navigation, Lux and the R – Line model. All the models come with a powerful 3600 cc V6 engine, complemented with an insane eight-speed automatic transmissions and an all-wheel drive system. The base models get petrol engines whereas the two higher models get the TDI diesel engine. The 2014 models feature higher fuel efficiency as well as performance. The coomapny also offers a hybrid model, which combines a supercharged 3000 cc V6 engine with an electric motor. This model is capable of producing a combined output of 380 horsepower and delivers a fuel economy of 20 miles per gallon in the city! The hybrid system is capable of disengaging the engine and the motor during highway cruising, making it capable of delivering a better thrust on highways!
Aston Martin Tries to Make Impression on the SUV Market With the Lagonda SUV Concept
After all the automobile giants like Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, etc. luxury car makers have also decided of making their way into the segment and bring for the SUV world some of the most luxurious (and expensive!) SUVs ever seen! After the news of Bentley, Rolls Royce and Lamborghini stepping into the category, we couldn’t think of any other but Aston Martin, who had signed a deal with Mercedes – AMG some time back.
Aston Martin first revealed its Lagonda SUV Concept at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, which was not liked very much by the SUV world as critics as well as SUV lovers did not really develop a liking for the vehicle. The company realized that there would have been a lot of changes to be made before they could expect good sales result after launching the SUV. A thing to be noticed is that this was before the company signed the deal with Mercedes – AMG. With access to the latter’s excellent engineering and electronic assets, Aston Martin has planned of making the Lagonda all different. One of the largest changes to be made is that the Lagonda will now feature Mercedes Benz GL Class platform. Earlier it sat on the Mercedes Benz M Class platform.
All that Aston Martin is going through for the Lagonda SUV Concept reminds us of Porsche’s story which happened during the launch of the Cayenne. The SUV was also highly criticized during its concept period. People accused the Cayenne of being ugly as per Porsche standards. However, after the release of the SUV, Porsche reported huge rises in sales, and the Cayenne turned out to be a huge success. A lot of people are saying that the Lagonda is extremely ugly, especially since Aston Martin has presented gorgeous vehicles like the DB9 and the One – 77 to the world. However, the performance and luxury quotients of the Lagonda are unquestionable! It’s an Aston Martin after all!
As far as the engine is concerned, we’re pretty sure that the company will put in a 6000cc V12 engine in the SUV. Lagonda will definitely be a four wheel drive vehicle, and will share motors with the legendary Aston MartinDB9. One admirable thing about the Lagonda is that the SUV will come with a wode number of available powertrains, and customers will be given a choice as per their will. One will be able to choose from a diesel variant, petrol as well as a hybrid option. This facility combined with the capabilities of the all-wheel drive system that comes with the Lagonda makes it a very potential vehicle for off road experiences!
We agree that the exteriors of the car are not as good as is expected from the company, but they have definitely set a new bar when it comes to luxurious and elegant interiors. However, Aston martin will definitely face extreme competition as it is entering a segment where giants like Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen, etc. have already made deep impressions. Beating legendary SUVs like the Cayenne, Touareg, Q7, etc. would definitely be very tough. We would love to see how the improved Lagonda fares in the SUV market.
