The Most Gas Efficient SUVs of 2013

We’re all worried about it; gasoline prices continue to stay at a steady high, and it’s difficult to think about purchasing or leasing a new vehicle that isn’t quite fuel-efficient enough to satisfy us. So, what’s a troubled driver to do when he/she desires the flexibility, power, and comfort of a new SUV with fuel economy ratings that won’t keep him/her at the gasoline pump? Don’t worry, reader. Here are some of the new SUV models that seamlessly combine all of these attributes:

One of the most impressive fuel-efficient SUV models this year is the 2013 Ford Explorer Sport with EcoBoost. The powerful 3.6-liter EcoBoost V6 engine allows this full-size SUV to achieve 17 mpg city/24 mpg highway. The Explorer has been popular with full-size SUV fans for some time now, but this represents the most efficient model to-date.

The all-new 2013 Mazda CX-5 crossover is also quite inspiring in terms of fuel economy. Fox News states, “The smartly packaged, functional and new-for-2013 Mazda CX-5 earned a combined city/highway fuel economy rating of 29 miles per gallon from the federal government. This puts the CX-5 ahead of competitors such as the well-known Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. It also means the CX-5 ties the 2013 Nissan Juke, which is a smaller-sized SUV, as best fuel-sipper among non-hybrid SUVs.”

Another rather comfortable and versatile new full-size SUV that’s also efficient on gas is the 2013 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid, which easily combines luxury and fuel economy, achieving an hefty 20 mpg city/ 23 mpg highway despite its large size thanks to its 6.0-liter V8 engine that produces 332 horsepower. It can also carry up to eight passengers.

In other crossover news, the 2013 Mitsubishi Sport is a fuel-efficient beast this year thanks to its extremely light frame and 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which is rated at 25 mpg city/ 31 mpg highway/ 27 mpg combined. Drivers can also thank the brand’s efficient CVT, which is paired with two-wheel drive.

Finally, it’s worth noting that the updated 2013 Honda CR-V offers an astounding combination of power and fuel economy. With its 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that create 185-horsepower, it’s nothing less than impressive. It achieves its 23 mpg city/ 31 mpg highway rating thanks to its Honda i-VTEC engine technology. Even when it”s equipped with the optional all-wheel drive, the new CR-V manages to achieve 25 mpg combined.

Of course, this list is by no means exhaustive. There are many more fuel-efficient full-size SUVs and crossover SUVs from which to choose. For the latest SUV news and reviews, be sure to check out
