2014 Ford Explorer: A Popular SUV
Long back in the year 1991, when Ford introduced its Ford Explorer a number one sport utility vehicle of that time, which eventually cemented the popularity of SUVs offered a rather rugged alternative to awkward station wagons and at that time it was considered a perfect vehicle. Ever since, the SUV landscape has gone through the tremendous change, but in 2014 as well Ford has kept its basics right and has introduced the all new 2014 Ford Explorer with that same old nostalgic feel. The excellent combination of power, refined interiors, fuel economy and much more has made it even more desirable than before.
To keep pace with the modern SUV market, Ford has adopted the carlike unibody structure to construct Ford, thus taking break from their truck like underpinnings, which is common in all their older models. The biggest advantage for Ford with this new body construction is that it offers more cabin space, improved fuel economy and comfortable ride, all these features come as a basic expectation from any family vehicle and Ford Explorer has managed to meet them all. From inside as well, this time Ford has kept its interiors upscale, adding seven passenger seat option along with a comprehensive list of safety and convenience features. There are also some advanced and unique options available like heated back seats, which are not very common in SUVs of the same price band. Second row seat belt airbags along with lane departure and lane warning systems are all newly added features for traditional 2014 Ford Explorer.
Ford has kept its engine standard V6 offering 290 horsepower, which is perfect to meet the needs of buyers, but to make it more interesting Ford has included 2.0 liter four cylinder engine as an added advantage. However, the buyer has to pay additionally for this engine but trust us it’s completely worthwhile because its power and fuel economy are best in this class. If you are still looking for the performance oriented Ford Explorer, than the company has also introduced its Explorer Sport Model with 3.5 liter turbocharged V6 engine with the power of generating 365 horsepower. Along with this, the sport version also offers firm suspension tuning and refurbished interior/exterior trim details.
Talking about the drawbacks of 2014 Ford Explorer, we got the conclusion that they mainly depend on the priority of the buyer. For example, if all member of your family are tall, than you might not find the second and third row seats comfortable as they are less roomier if compared to other crossovers. Same goes for its cargo space and its MyFord touch interface which has frequent glitches while operating. Also, the 2014 Ford Explorer feels bigger than it actually is while behind the wheel and is not at all an easy vehicle to maneuver while driving in tight spaces.
Possible alternative for 2014 Ford explorer are 2014 Chevrolet Traverse, 2014 Dodge Durango, 2014 Mazda CX-9 and Fords’ Sibling Ford Flex as they all are roomier, versatile and upscale with many comforts which are not available in 2014 Ford Explorer.
Dodge Durango 2014
To keep its feet or rather wheels firm on the ground, Dodge Durango went through a few upgrades to stay competitive. If you’re looking for three rows of seats and some towing capability you’ll end up with options that are sorely limited boring, or staid. But the new Dodge Durango proudly makes an exception. It shares its sophisticated underpinnings and top-notch driving experience with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, while the bold exteriors remain peculiarly different in this crowded class of look-alikes. The best part of the news is yet to come. While the whole Durango is being transformed into something even more awesome, what still remains unchanged is the price. The Dodge’s improved SUV, just like the current model will be priced from $29,795.
On the outside, the Dodge Durango went through a makeover with new projector-beam headlights and hockey stick shaped LED running lamps. What makes the new fairly muscular Durango look brawnier is the new slimmer textured crosshair grille along with the newly sculpted hood and the lower front façade. The new wheel designs with a Hyper Black finish punctuate the whole look of the car. However, it’s the rear that changed the most with LED racetrack lighting from the Dodge Dart forming a ribbon of light across the tail comprising of 192 individual lamps in all. The new gearbox pairs with the standard 3.6 liter V6 engine 290 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The optional 5.7 liter V8 generating 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque makes the Durango great among the good. The eight-speed automatic transmission featured in the new Durango enables fuel economy up to nine percent. Its independent suspensions, precise steering and big brakes make the drive never better.
Unlike many of its crossover competitors, Dodge Durango is still a rear-wheel drive SUV with two available all-wheel drive systems. Properly equipped, a V6 Durango can tow up to 6,200 pounds while the V8 takes it up to 7,400 pounds and that is some “increased” towing capability. All Durangos feature the standard trailer sway control.
On the inside, the Durango features a customizable 7-inch screen that displays the gauges and the vital trip information while the center stack comprises of either 5-inch or 8.5 inch touchscreens for climate control, multimedia and smartphone integration. Inside the authoritative Dodge Durango, the major controls are big simple knobs and gauges with big red needles. This extra dose of red detailing and white trimmed instruments define the Durango as bold and tasteful. The newly installed navigation systems recognizes voice commands and displays 3D maps while a Wi-Fi hotspot keeps the passengers connected on the go. If the internet doesn’t satisfy some there’s a Blu-Ray rear set entertainment system with dual 9-inch screens.
The new Dodge Durango stepped in the market with some exterior refinements, upgraded interiors and improved fuel economy. Significantly less expensive, the Durango is for those who love a more traditions sport-ute. The passenger-friendly Dodge Durango is a fine competitor to the Ford Explorer, Chevy Traverse and the Mercedes Benz GL. The fully redesigned highly anticipated Dodge Durango is set to blow SUVs’ lovers’ mind in the early 2014!
Dodge Durango to get Futuristic!
Looks like the New York Auto Show will be raining new SUVs this time. With the large number of new SUVs as well as older SUVs being redesigned and launched here, the show will be a real treat to any SUV lover. Count Dodge’s new 2014 Durango in the huge number of redesigned SUVs. The company will be showing off its new version of the Durango, which has been among the most popular SUVs of the markets internationally. Moreover, while other companies have stuck their new ideas to their chests, Dodge has released a striking trailer praising the might beast!
As mentioned in the press release, Dodge stated that the new 2014 remake of the Durango will feature quite a lot of amazing futuristic technologies which will make it the most stylish and modern version of the Durango SUV series. Quoting the words as stated in the press release, “Building upon its best-in-class attributes, Durango adds several new class-exclusive features for 2014, making it the Dodge brand’s most technologically advanced, fuel-efficient and stylish Durango ever.” Dodge seems certainly very confident about the new model!
What Dodge apparently wanted to reveal from the trailers was that the new Durango features some of the most stylish headlamps and tail lamps that any Dodge SUV has ever flaunted. The headlamps have been reformed into more contemporary style lamps which certainly make the beast look mightier than ever. A beautiful LED strip lines the lower edge of the lamps, underlining the central units and giving a very stylish look to the frontal side of the SUV. The tail lamps, on the other hand, are really wide and are said to be full racetrack style LED lights.
We can also assure you that your new 2014 Dodge Durango SUV will come with a mighty 8 speed automatic transmission mode. Consequently, expecting highly improved performance as well as an impressive fuel economy is obvious. Further, Dodge has plans of improving the interiors, and taking them to an entirely new level. As can be said by quoting Dodge’s statement from the official press release once again, “Built on the Dodge brand’s pillars of style, performance and innovation, the new 2014 Dodge Durango will deliver state-of-the-art technology in both form and function.”
Among the expected add-ons that the new Durango will be given, the most prominent one is perhaps the Uconnect Access via Mobile Technology, which was introduced by the Chrysler Group. The technology incorporates the Aha, iHeart Radio, Pandora Internet Radio/Slacker Radio apps, and content can be transferred from the user’s smartphone via an internet connection. The technology is also used in other amazing cars like the Dodge Ram 1500 and the SRT Viper.
Dodge has apparently taken the Jeep Grand Cherokee as a reference while designing the new Durango. We say so because the 8 speed automatic transmission mentioned above is also present in the new Jeep Grand Cherokee. Also, you can send text messages, just like the Jeep, using voice recognition with natural speech, and not to be crammed codes!
