Hennessey Roars in with its 2013 Ford Velociraptor SUV

Well renowned for refurbishing various monster machines over the past two decades, Texas-based designer and tuner John Hennessey converted Ford’s F-150 Raptor SVT crew cab pick-up into a full-fledged Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) with seating available for eight passengers watching the seamless popularity of the Ford pickup especially from SEMA show in 2012. Hennessey Performance garage had already been offering an overhauled version of F-150 Raptor with an upgraded engine pacifying the needs of buyers who wanted more from the van than 411 horsepower. HPE have, since past three years, produced over 400 Raptor beasts and are overwhelmed to offer Velociraptor trucks for sports enthusiasts.

As the F-150 SVT crew cab from Ford factory travels through a series of dealers and is reached at the Hennessey Performance garage, the trailer from the crew cab and the top of pickup bed is scythed off and new parts are welded for attachment of rear set of doors. Original shaded glass windows from the discontinued in 2005 Ford truck, Excursion are installed above the rear set of wheels after masking with new sheet-metal and painting. Following this is the process of addition of a melded three door tailgate, acquired from the Excursion as well, is mounted surgically in place of the raptor trailer tailgate without altering the taillights and rear bumper from the Raptor.

The recently added trailer bed is carpeted and padded, while the padded interior contour lines which cover the sidelines are adapted from the Excursion, too. Then the roof which is insulated with a thick insulation layer is covered with a dark character. Hennessey remarked this was to make the interiors appear, as company-like as possible. The wings of the van remain aboard while modern cues have been grafted onto the body. Chasmal interiors are exposed as the rear compartment is opened, largest in the sports utility market. It is a customer’s decision so as to what to do with the interiors – they could leave it hollow or place a second and even a third row for added seating up to eight riders. Additional mechanical upgrades like fancily wrapped aggressive tires, better Brembo brakes and armour option, alongside interior LED lighting, custom upholstery and entertainment add-ons are available.

Hennessey offers a stock 411 horsepower unit with a 6.2litre V-8 engine that fires from 0 to 97kmph in a span of 7.5 seconds while an alternative supercharged version, a 600 horsepower unit due to which Velociraptor 600 derives its identity, which despite of added 200 kg of weight reaches 97kmph mark in just 5.9 seconds. Moreover, Hennessey is developing another 800 horsepower behemoth for much more curious souls. Even after this beasty performance, on pushing the pedal right, the interior cabin remains silent, while for customers seeking roaring engine can opt for exhaust solutions. Apart from so many changes, the Velociraptor is essentially a Raptor ahead of the front door including stock dashboard and meters, and unchanged wheelbase and chassis.

The success of the beast is certainly enthralling even after rising concern for the fuel prices, but the edition vehicle is restricted to a limited audience because of its base pricing of $159,500 and thus Hennessey is determined to narrow production to only 30 units per year.

Will Hummer Make a Come Back With the 2013 H4 SUV?

What comes to your mind when you hear the word ‘Hummer’? Definitely it will be nothing but a huge and bold SUV that might just run over any other vehicle leaving it a complete piece of trash! Well, you might need to feed some new data into your mind as the brand will now be bringing a new smaller SUV, which looks and performs as brutally as its elder brothers do!

Realizing the fact that the world has started to prefer compact SUVs and crossovers over the larger ones, the company has finally decided to bring in some products which are not as huge as boulders. Yes, we are talking about the beautiful Hummer H4 concept SUV, which is nothing less than an extreme beast!

Hummer has stated that the H4 will be great choice for those who travel a lot off road. What else do the 35 inch diameter wheels yell in your face? Besides the huge wheels, the H4 also comes with an impressive array of equipment which makes it one of the best off road SUVs. It is based on the HX concept that the company unveiled back in 2008. The engine statistics that the SUV features will also make you realize why the vehicle is such a beast. We would also like to mention that the H4 is a two door SUV, and each and every inch of the vehicle shouts manliness like no other vehicle does!

We consider calling the engine that the SUV features under its hood downright insane. What other adjective do you think would fit in best for the 3600cc direct injection V6 engine that comes with the monster? Yes, this engine for a two door SUV! The engine would provide some insane power to the huge wheels. The machine features an all-time four wheel drive system with locking front and rear difference. The 35 inch wheels are also combined with a feature which can reduce vibrations to a great extent. Your ride will hence be smooth at not so smooth terrains as well. Expecting a legendary off road driving experience from this beast is obvious!

We mentioned above that every inch of the SUV stinks of manliness, and we surely mean it! You can tell by a single glance that the H4 is perhaps one of the most robust SUVs that have ever been built. The front grilles as well as the head lamps are ordinarily shaped, but there is just something about the H4 that instantly makes you fall in love with it! The interiors of the 2013 version are also quite elegant and futuristic. With cleaner and spacious interiors and the amazingly comfortable seats, you will feel like you are sitting in some luxurious sedan, just a bit more aggressive!

The SUV is being produced in China, and will be out for sale soon. Hummer has faced a very huge blow to its reputation since the rise of the compact SUVs. We certainly hope that the massive improvements accompanied by the brutality that Hummer was known for will certainly help it rise and shine once again!

Land Rover Plans of a Baby SUV, Discards Convertible Plans

Have you been a hard core Land Rover fan all your life but just couldn’t afford buying one of those amazing yet highly expensive babies all along? Well, we have just the perfect news for you. Let the shine of hope get to you, as Land Rover is ruined to have been planning of introducing an all-new SUV, which will be placed below all of the company’s products, right at the entry level. If Land Rover does give a nod to the production of the entry level ‘Baby SUV’, then it will be the next one to join other automobile giants like Porsche and BMW in the small entry level SUV race. These companies already have their respective products, Porsche Macan and BMW X1 competing in the same segment.

Mr John Edwards, global brand director for Land Rover, has confirmed that the product planning time at Land Rover is currently thinking about the feasibility of a baby SUV, and the members are presently fighting mixed reactions. According to Edwards, a baby SUV from the entry level would certainly compete well and would cater a very large fraction of population. However, the company needs to evaluate estimate profits and other factors before allowing the new SUV to see the light of the day.

Officials at Autocar also confirmed the news, and believe that the baby SUV would most likely take up design patterns from the Land Rover DC100 concept. They also estimated that the SUV would come with a price tag of around $27500 USD in the United States of America (roughly 18000 pounds in the United Kingdom) which is fairly low than the company’s current popular models.

While the company is thinking of adding up new SUVs to the current line-up, contrarily to the rumours that surfaced some time back, Land Rover is giving no green signal to the production of a convertible Range Rover Evoque.

Many of the company’s fans had turned ecstatic as the rumours of a convertible Range Rover spread up recently. Further, as the much desired darling flaunted itself at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, many were found with dumb founded looks on their faces. Everyone associated with the SUV world might have asked, “Is the convertible Range Rover really happening?” It isn’t. The company’s recent actions and proceedings have made it quite clear that we are not to be blessed with such a gorgeous beauty and the convenience and fun of driving a Range Rover while enjoying a clear blue sky anytime soon.

Land Rover has been making quite a number of changes to its fleet of SUVs that it sells under the Range Rover segment. Expecting a full and opening panoramic roof is okay, but the company is not venturing into the possibilities of a convertible SUV anytime soon. It might be worthy to mention the fact here that among the more prestigious SUV makers, only the Nissan Murano Cross Cabriolet is the only convertible that comes close to a convertible SUV. However, the possibility of a convertible Range Rover causes a mouth-watering reaction that no other SUV possibly can!

Why Drive an SUV?

Are you hesitant about purchasing a new SUV? After all, sometimes the full-sized vehicles get a bad rap for their negative impact on the environment. However, as auto companies continue to find fuel-efficient ways to power the large vehicles, it’s becoming quite apparent just how appealing they can be. The crossover SUV, in particular, has really been dominating the auto market recently.

Reasons to Drive an SUV:

  • A Roomy Interior: SUVs are known for being spacious enough to handle all of your family members and their corresponding cargo. Though SUVs don’t have the same cargo carrying capacity of a truck, they are quite capable of transporting large furniture and huge groups of people. Their interiors are also quite versatile. With the seats folded down or up, there are many options available for storage. A few SUVs even offer power tailgates like trucks do, so drivers have easy access for space. In short, they offer many of the same advantages of a van without being as bulky. They’re also much more appealing to look at. Some SUVs hold up to eight or more passengers, and if you have a large family this is extremely important. Some of the most roomy SUVs on the market include the Chevy Suburban, the Ford Expedition, the Lincoln Navigator, and the Cadillac Escalade.
  • Powerful Insides: SUVs are powerful because they typically boast a six- or eight-cylinder engine. And, though a standard SUV may only produce around 200 horsepower, ultra-powerful models like the BMW X6 M achieve well over 500 horsepower. As mentioned, most SUVs, like trucks, are capable of towing up to a few tons, which means that family boating activities are always an option. Because many SUVs are also equipped with 4WD, off-road activities can also be a viable option. 4WD capability also means that an SUV will also be able to safely navigate in all types of weather, be it a snow storm, a rainy afternoon, or a beautiful summer day.
  • Precise Handling: Though each SUV comes with its own degree of handling, most SUVs have quite excellent handling capabilities. Of course, 4WD is a big part of this, as it allows for use in remote or hard-to-reach areas. Other SUVs may be equipped with all-wheel drive, which is also helpful in all-weather situations. Either way, have a drivetrain that handles well on all types of terrain and road surfaces is essential for the adventurous types. Excellent handling also means that many SUVs can respond quite quickly in situations where reactions are key.

To be fair, there are also downsides to driving an SUV. As previously mentioned, fuel ecomony can be an issue, but there are safety factors to consider as well. Though vehicles continue to get safer each year, SUVs can have more potential to roll over than other types of vehicles. With the IIHS cracking down on rollover safety ratings, however, this is becoming less of a concern.
