2019 Hyundai Genesis G70 Will Come With Manual Transmission Option
The upcoming 2019 Hyundai Genesis G70 compact sports sedan will come with a manual transmission option, a representative for the South Korean automaker said. Genesis is Hyundai’s standalone luxury brand.
This manual transmission option has just placed the G70 in a segment that has increasingly become lacking of options that would allow you to “row your own” vehicle. Kevin Smith, Genesis’ spokesman, said in a report by The Car Connection that the 6-speed manual gearbox will be paired with the G70’s standard 2.0-liter turbo-4. There are no details though on the pricing of these different trim levels.
It is further revealed that the G70’s manual option is only for purists, which means those who can handle the turbo-4 and a rear-wheel drive. On the other hand, the more powerful 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine will be exclusive with the 8-speed automatic that will be optional with the turbo-4.
It’s in the fuel economy that will suffer, apparently. The rear-wheel-drive G70 will be powered by the 2.0-liter inline-4 with manual transmission. That has an EPA rating of 18 mpg city, 28 highway, and 22 combined. Compare that to the 22/30/25 mpg for the G70 with an automatic transmission, the turbo-4, and rear-wheel drive, and the manual option surely did a take a lot of hit.
The rest of the lineup will have these ratings: 21/28/23 mpg for the turbo-4, the 8-speed automatic, and the all-wheel drive, 18/26/21 mpg for the optional V-6, and 18/25/20 mpg for the V-6 and all-wheel drive.
The G70 will probably make its debut this early 2018 as a 2019 model, so that should come anytime soon. As for the prices, though there is no official word yet, it will probably be in the $30,000 bracket.
Aside from the Hyundai Genesis G70, other luxury models from other brands offering manual transmission are the Cadillac ATS, Audi A4, and BMW 3-Series.
What We Know So Far About The Chevy Camaro With 7-Speed Manual
There are hushed tones in the auto industry that Chevrolet plans to fit its Camaro with a seven-speed manual transmission for the 2019 model year. To those who don’t know, the Chevy Camaro already has a current six-speed manual option, along with its eight-speed and 10-speed automatic transmissions.
The current Chevrolet Camaro already shares quite a few features with the C7 Corvette, particularly when it comes to their V8 engine choices. AutoGuide, however, has thrown another little tidbit of information about the two vehicles. According to a document retrieved from the California Air Resources Board (CARB), the Camaro will gain a seven-speed manual gearbox, the same unit found in the Corvette.
The seven-speed manual on the Camaro will most likely be paired with the 6.2-liter LT1 V8 in the Camaro SS variant. This is the same engine that we found in the base Corvette Stingray. We wouldn’t be surprised, too, if there’s an extra gear on the supercharged Camaro ZL1 since it uses the same LT4 V8 found in the Corvette Z06, which comes with a seven-speed unit, too.
The document is very vague when it comes to the details of this move from Chevrolet. It only listed engine displacement and transmissions planned for the Camaro. Of course, there have been speculations in the past about the possible fitting of a seven-speed transmission in the next-generation Camaro, but there was never any concrete evidence that the plan existed.
Now, Chevy has remained mum on this issue and did not confirm any of the details the document from the CARB revealed. The plan may not come into fruition until 2019, though, so that’s a lot of time for us to wait. But the possibility of seeing a Camaro powered by a 7-speed manual transmission is enough to make that wait bearable, at the very least.
Six-speed Manual Transmission Joins The 2017 Honda Civic Lineup
Starting October 4, the Honda Civic Sedan and Civic Coupe can compete as America’s best-selling compact car nameplate once more because of the expanded application of manual transmission for the 2017 model year.
Honda is now offering its customers more options with the 6-speed manual transmission as standard equipment on the turbocharged Civic Sedan and Coupe in EX-T trims. The decision was built upon the “fun-to-drive character of the 10th generation Civic lineup,” a Honda press release said.
The 2017 Honda Civic has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $18,740 for the Sedan and $19,150 for the Coupe.
For the 2017 model year, the Civic Sedan and Coupe EX-T will have the following features: the sporty six-speed manual transmission, a 1.5-liter direct-injected and turbocharged DOHC engine, CVT optional on turbocharged EX-T trims and standard on EX-L and Touring, HD Radio and XM Satellite Radio on Civic EX Sedans.
The Sedan and Coupe EX-T can produce 174 horsepower and 167 lb-ft of torque, 5 lb-ft up from models equipped with the CVT.
For the exterior design, the 2017 Civic will be 2 inches wider and 1 inch lower with a 1.2-inch longer wheelbase. This allows the Civic to feature a more compact and sporty front overhang, a longer and sculpted hood, and a fastback-style tail. Thanks to a new LED exterior lighting, the 10th generation Civic looks considerably more premium than current model.
Inside, the Civic carries through an exciting and more sophisticated look with its premium, soft-touch cab materials that exceeded current class standard. It also packs a dual-zone automatic climate control for the EX-T and above trims while coming standard are the Display Audio touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
For safety and driver assistance features, the 2017 Civic takes pride in its Honda Sensing technologies, the next-generation Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure, and its achievement of the highest available NHTSA safety ratings.
