2018 Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster To Arrive In 2017
The roadster version of the Mercedes-AMG GT series is scheduled to arrive by 2017, spy shots confirmed. There were rumors earlier that the German luxury automaker plans to skip building an AMG GT Roadster to protect its SL-Class Roadster, which hasn’t been doing well in the market.
However, the new spy shots just proved that the roadster is indeed coming as anticipated. This isn’t that surprising because Mercedes developed the GT with the Porsche 911 Turbo as competition. Since Porsche came out with a drop-top version of the range-topping model, Mercedes will have to follow suit if it doesn’t want to lose the challenge.
On the outside, the Mercedes-AMG GT roadster has a slightly longer deck lid and it will also come without its fixed roof. The soft top will be similar to the shape of the SLS AMG. This is a minor change from the current version, but it does ensure that the body style can transition without exactly ruining the car’s sleek appearance.
Inside, the roadster will enjoy the same aviation-inspired theme with the wing-like dashboard with spotlight-style A/C vents in the center stack. There are also the concave-shaped door panels and the motorsport-inspired center console that is stacked with the AMG Drive Unit controls.
Passengers will get to experience the luxurious seating made of high quality materials that include leather, Alcantara, contrast stitching, and exemplary fit and finish. This elegant interior will be finished off by the “infinite” headroom, thanks to the option of a removable roof.
The infotainment system will also be very similar to the coupe and it will include the latest apps and features.
Under the hood, you’ll find Mercedes-AMG’s twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V-8 that can churn out 456 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. The AMG GT S version will get you 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.
There is no information yet about the pricing though it is expected that the GT S Roadster will debut at $137,000.
The Mercedes-AMG GT R Promises 577BHP
When Mercedes announced that an AMG GT R is coming, experts and car enthusiasts alike were on tenterhooks, wondering just how powerful it could be. Well, time to stop the teasers that Affalterbach tuner has been dropping. We now hear a confirmation of some of the performance specs for this supercar.
The new Mercedes-AMG GT R will have a 577bhp twin-turbo V8 that sat behind its front axle, driving the rear wheels. This is the same engine that has been fitted to the regular GT and sportier GT S.
This makes it 74bhp healthier than the existing AMG GT S, which only gives out 503hp (the GT has an even lower 453hp capacity). It also makes this model the most potent Merc supercar since the SLS AMG Black Series.
The engine also makes it a direct rival to the Porsche 911 GT3 RS that has 500hp while it falls slightly below the Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and the Nissan GT-R Nismo that offer 650hp and 600hp, respectively.
New to the AMG GT R are the transaxle transmission, a modified undercarriage, a more involved aerodynamic package that comes with big wings, splitters and dive planes, and a carbon-based construction.
There are no details yet as to how “light” the AMG GT R will be. What we do know is that the 577bhp promised will allow the supercar to go 0-62mph in just 3.6 seconds and on to a 198mph top speed.
Merc assures “an extraordinary driving dynamics” that delivers “extreme fast laps” on the racetrack.
We shall all get ready for its debut at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed in United Kingdom. Also something to look out for is the GT-R’s exclusive color called the AMG Green Hell Magno, which can be seen on the teaser shots.
The “Green Hell” is a reference to the Nurburgring where much of the car’s looks were developed.
Will The Kia GT Concept Be Called The Stinger?
Reports have it that Korean auto maker Kia is working on a sleek sports sedan with a rear-wheel drive. This was apparently first featured in 2011 in the form of the Kia GT concept. Oh, how time flies.
It now carries the codename CK, and has recently been spotted on the back of a truck. Sources said it is set to make its debut later this year at the 2016 Paris Auto Show in September.
Until recent reports that reveal it might carry the Stinger name, this particular Kia was called a GT. Is the revelation that it will be named Stinger a confirmation that the GT would be a sports car performance-wise? After all, Kia used the name Stinger for its sports car concept in 2014.
That particular sports car was ruled out for production because of a low demand, but elements of it—the design and apparently, the name—will be featured on this sedan.
This GT or Stinger is based on the platform used on the Genesis G80 and the G90 sedans. One of the available powertrains for that platform is the twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 fitted in the Genesis sedans. That can produce 365 horsepower. Customers can choose between 4- or 6-cylinder engines.
Whatever it will be called, this new Kia is slated to be a part of the 2018 lineup for the Korean brand. It will fit somewhere in the middle of the Cadenza and the K900, and would compete with style-led sedans such as the Audi A7 and the Mercedes-Benz CLS. The Kia, of course, will be way cheaper.
Cheap cars are the centerfold of Kia’s business model. Though this was a successful strategy at first, Kia and sister company Hyundai are experiencing declining profits amid increasing sales. The new strategy seems to be targeting more profitable segments, such as the one where this new Kia will fit.
2017 Bentley Continental GT Speed Black Edition Receives Extra Power
When Bentley launched its Continental GT Black Speed special edition for the Australian market, both the US and European markets were slighted by the fact that they can’t get their hands on it.
Fortunately, Bentley announced a new special edition using the “Black” name. This time, it’s based on the GT Speed according to a report. You can choose either a coupe or convertible bodystyle, and there’s also more than just one exterior color.
But what sets this apart from other “special editions” is that the 2017 Bentley Continental GT Speed Black Edition will receive upgrades on its drivetrain. It will have 633 hp and 620 lb-ft of torque. The extra horsepower and torque will allow the car to go 0-60 mph in a mere sprint.
True to its name, the GT Speed Black Edition is decked out in high-gloss black exterior. It has an all-black components—main grille, meshes, bumpers, headlamps and taillights bezels, window trim, lower chrome strip, mirror caps, and bumper insert.
You can opt to have contrast colors for the exterior. Colors include Hallmark (metallic gray), Beluga (black), St. James’ Red, and Cyber Yellow.
Clients can customize the overall look of the GT Speed Black Edition. Beluga will give a sportier appearance while St. James’ Red and Cyber Yellow will make it flashier.
Regardless of the exterior colors you will choose, the GT Speed Black Edition will arrive with all-black, 21-inch, five-spoke wheels and bespoke brake calipers in either red or black.
Bentley Motors already unveiled the GT Speed and GT Speed Black Edition this week in a private event in New York City. Deliveries for the GT Speed Black Edition will begin this year’s summer in both the US and European markets.
Bentley’s Continental GT Speed Black Edition will sell for $253,235 in the US. But if you want a drop top, prepare to shell out $277,235 for the convertible model.
Bentley Continental GT Gets Power Boost, Black Edition
As if we weren’t already impressed with the Bentley Continental GT, the company gives us even more to love. Producing the fastest Bentley ever, the new Continental GT has a top speed of 206 mph and delivers more horsepower and torque. It also comes in a striking Black Edition.
The Continental GT’s 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine can now produce 642 PS—up from 635 PS—and 20 Nm extra torque to bring the total to 840 Nm. The additional torque brings better acceleration performance, thanks to it being applied through the entire rev engine via reconfiguration of the boost control.
As a result, the Bentley Continental GT can now go 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds.
Bentley is introducing the Continental GT in Black Edition too, which celebrates the sporting character of the brand. It is available in both coupe and convertible body styles. The black exterior color comes in high gloss finish, which includes the window openings and lamp bezels. Its 21-inch five-spoke directional wheels come in black with distinctive brake calipers, which can come in either black or red finishes.
In addition, it has contrasting colors on the front splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser in four different shades, namely, Hallmark, Beluga, St. James’ Red and Cyber Yellow, to match the exterior styling accents. It also has contrast stitching that gives more character to the diamond quilting of the doors and the Mulliner GT Design seats.
Paul Jones, Product Line Director for Continental GT, said that Bentley decided to come up with the new Continental GT Black Edition to answer customers’ request for a model in the Continental line that would offer increased sporting capabilities and recognizable styling outside.
The new GT Speed and GT Speed Black Edition models are available for order now. Deliveries will begin this summer.
