Top 3 Things To Know About The 2019 Nissan Sentra

nissan sentra (1)

The Nissan Sentra is not exactly the type of compact sedan that car enthusiasts love. It has nothing going on except that it’s dependable and it does the job well. The functionality, however, of the Sentra proved to be Nissan’s reason to go as far as release a Nismo version a few years back.

1. Entry-Level Model Is More Expensive Than Its Predecessor

The entry-level Sentra S is $1,100 more expensive than its predecessor. It comes in at $17,790 and gets a few basic pieces of equipment such as air-conditioning, Bluetooth connectivity, powered windows/locks, and cruise control. The base model also comes with a 1.8-liter engine that makes 124 horsepower with the Xtronic transmission and 130 horses with a six-speed manual.

Moving up the trim level, the Sentra SV includes a 7.0-inch NissanConnect infotainment system with an Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The SV option also gives you a chance to pay for the SV Special Edition Package.

2. SV Special Edition Package Is New To The Game

The SV Special Edition Package was made exclusively for the SV trim level. It offers a whole lot of aesthetic materials that could make the Sentra stand out. For example, the package will include 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, rear disc brakes, Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), power sliding glass moonroof with tilt feature, center room dim lamp (LED), dual illuminated visor vanity mirrors, and a Special Edition badge.

The SV Special Edition Package will also come with the Xtronic transmission, meaning that the Sentra will get the automatic emergency braking system.

3. Sentra SR Turbo And Sentra Nismo Are Also Available

If you are not satisfied with the kind of performance that the S and the SV can provide, maybe you should look into the SR Turbo and Nismo trim levels. They are the only ones available with the 1.6-liter turbocharged engine.

Overall, the new Nissan Sentra is also boasting of its Safety Shield Technologies that include Automatic Emergency Braking, Intelligent Cruise Control, Blind Spot Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

5 Things To Note About The 2017 Nissan Sentra Nismo

For the 2017 model year, Nissan is upgrading its Sentra Sedan through the work of its in-house tuner, Nismo. This was introduced ahead of the planned launching at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show on Wednesday.

Here are 5 things you need to know about the Nismo-tuned Sentra based on a source:

1. Concept form Was Previewed In 2013

Back during the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, Nissan gave us a glimpse of the concept form for the Nissan Sentra Nismo. The problem is, this production version missed out on what the concept has boasted about—240 horsepower. Instead, this Nismo-tuned Sentra will be founded on the Sentra SR Turbo’s setup, which is only good for 188 horsepower.

This will be paired with a front-axle drive and either a 6-speed manual or CVT.

2. “Sporty” Feel Was Fine Tuned

Where Nissan focused was on making sure that the car has a sporty feel to it. Its engineers enhanced the Sentra Nismo’s performance based on aerodynamics, body reinforcements and suspension tuning. They also added some features interior-wise to add to that sporty feel.

3. Chassis Was Adjusted For Sturdier Feel

The Sentra Nismo now has a chassis that has monotube rear dampers and unique tuning on the front springs and struts. They also added stabilizer bars at the front and rear for sturdier driving. The car’s electronic power steering is also fitted with Nismo calibrations for a sportier feel.

4. Nismo Red Accents Were Added In The Exterior

Nissan wants the Nismo to appeal to sporty individuals. As such, they have to tweak the exterior a little bit by making it more aggressive. The Nismo body kit includes Nismo’s signature red accents. It also has 18-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport and 11-inch housing ventilated brake discs at both ends.

The Sentra Nismo comes in four colors: Brilliant Silver, Gun Metallic, Super Black and Aspen White.

5. Interior Receives A Special Treatment

Inside the Sentra Nismo, there are Nismo logos and extra-bolstered seats with red stitching. The sportier steering wheel is wrapped in Alcantara and leather trim. Completing the “special treatment” is a dark headliner and Nismo logo on the instrument panel.

The interior color is charcoal with red accents.

2017 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo Debuts In Miami

The new 2017 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo made its world debut at the 46th annual Miami International Auto Show, which ran from September 10 to 18 at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Aside from the SR Turbo, the 2017 Nissan Rogue also made its debut.

The Nissan Sentra SR Turbo packs a 1.6-liter Direct Injection Gasoline (DIGTM) turbocharged engine that delivers a 50-percent horsepower increase from the normally aspirated 1.8-liter Sentra SR powerplant. In total, it has a capacity of 188 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, which are 64 more horsepower and 52 more lb-ft of torque than non-turbo Nissan grades.

Because of the increase in power and torque, the SR Power needed an enhanced body structure, revised steering system, larger front disc brakes, new 6-speed manual or Xtronic transmission with manual mode, and unique suspension tuning. What comes from this combination are improved acceleration, improved handling, and enhanced ride comfort.

Michael Bunce, vice president for Product Planning at Nissan North America, said the SR Power was specifically designed for those who want all the attributes of a traditional sedan, but also wants to experience turbo performance. It builds upon the redesigned Sentra with 50 percent more power and 40 percent more torque.

All Sentra SR models will have the following features: LED low beam projector headlights with LED accents, lower body side sill extensions, rear spoiler with integrated LED brake light, fog lights, chrome exhaust finisher, heated outside mirrors with LED turn signals, and unique design 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 205/50R17 all-season tires.

Inside, Sentra SR has sport interior trim, premium sport cloth seats, driver’s seatback pocket, heated front seats, a 5.0-inch Advanced Drive-Assist™ Display (ADAD), and standard Siri Eyes Free™ Voice Recognition.

The 2017 Sentra SR Turbo also has a standard power sliding glass moonroof and SR Turbo badging while the SR Turbo Premium Package, the only option package available with the SR Turbo, includes Blind Spot Warning (BSW)2, Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)2, leather-appointed seating, and Bose® Premium audio system with eight speakers.

What Would A Nissan Sentra Nismo Be Like?

nissan sentra nismo

It’s way too hard not to imagine what a Nissan car bearing the Nismo nameplate be like after the company revealed its concept at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show.

There was a time that Nissan was the dream of many, thanks to its SE-R, which was sadly discontinued after the 2012 model. That one was packed to capacity—a four-cylinder engine, responsive suspension, and a competitive price tag.

You wouldn’t find the likes these days, except that Nissan will probably surprise us with a performance Sentra with all the goodies of before. But until the company actually announces something, car enthusiasts are free to imagine what the Nismo nameplate would come with.

According to a source, the Nissan Sentra Nismo would have Nissan’s “Energetic Flow” design language as seen on the Altima, Maxima and Murano. The front fascia would gain the “V-Motion” grille, as well as boomerang-shaped headlights and taillights. A strip of chrome would run from the trunk to the window surround, linking the nose and tail with shiny metal.

Across the Nismo lineup, you would find the premium Bright Pearl White color with accents done in red, black and carbon fiber, most especially in lower fascia, sideview mirrors, door handles and side sills.

There would also be a shiny black chrome mesh for the upper and lower grilles while the 19-inch aluminum alloys Ray wheels will use a dark grey matte finish and polished lip.

For the drivetrain, the Sentra is usually equipped with 1.8-liter, DOHC, inline four-cylinder engine. The total output stands at only 130 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque through a front-wheel drive continuously variable transmission (CVT). It can go 0-to-60 mph on automatic transmission or manual transmission for the base model Sentra S.

There’s a turbocharger to add more power and speed. This can lead to 265 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.

As for the price, the Nismo would most likely start at $28,000.
