3 of the Best Car Deals for the Fourth of July

Independence Day weekend is the best time to troop to your local car dealership and check out what “surprises” are in store for you in terms of low prices and high incentives for slow-selling car models. Manufacturers aim to boost the presence and the sales of these models by offering it for a lower price in time for the Fourth of July celebration.

If you’re eyeing a particular sedan or SUV, you may want to look at this list and hope it’s one of these slow-selling models you can get for less than its original price:

1. 2017 Chevrolet Sonic

2017 chevrolet sonic

Priced at $15,145, the 2017 Chevrolet Sonic has been refreshed for the 2017 model year. However, its sales have decreased by 44.9 percent this year compared to the same period last year. The Sonic is a good value because it handles well and is comfortable, thanks to its turbocharged engine. Inside this subcompact car, it has plenty of seating and cargo. It also has an aesthetic upgrade, including the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

2. 2017 Kia Sportage

2017 kia sportage

At $23,200, the Kia Sportage is certainly a car you can pick up right now. You think that extensive upgrades would up the sales? That did not happen to the Sportage. Instead, sales of this compact SUV declined by 16.6 percent this year compared to the same period in 2016. Last month, Sportage sales were down 18.3 percent compared to the same month last year.

If you want this bad, you can even get this for zero percent financing for five years before July 10. The Sportage has roomy seating, composed handling, premium cabin materials, and user-friendly tech. If you want better cargo space, though, you have to check out Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester, and Toyota RAV4.

3. 2017 Chevrolet Malibu

2017 chevrolet malibu

The 2017 Chevrolet Malibu has been hailed as the Best Midsize Car For Families because of its crash test scores, seating and cargo space, and reliability rating. But all of these do not mean good sales for the Malibu because recent reports indicated that Chevy sold 30 percent less units compared to the same period last year.

Now priced at $21,680, the Malibu is an even better car to get your hands on.

5 Most Powerful American Cars and SUVs Today

Earlier, we have discussed how automotive experts wanted the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon banned from the roads. They are worried that its ridiculously high output might trigger reckless drivers. That is subject for debate though.

For now, let us take a look at where the Dodge Demon falls under the 5 most powerful American cars and sport utility vehicles today based on an article from Fox News Auto.

1. 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon

dodge challenger srt demon

Unsurprisingly, the Demon falls into first place, thanks to its 6.2-liter V8 engine that can produce up to 808 hp. As if that’s not yet high enough, the source said that pumping the vehicle with 100 octane race gas can raise its output to 840 hp.

2. Dodge Challenger/Charger SRT Hellcat

hellcat

The Hellcats each carry a 6.2-liter V8 unit. The engine packs 707 hp. The Challenger model is capable of getting a top speed of 199 mph while the more aerodynamically-built Charger can take up to 204 mph.

3. 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

2018 Jeep® Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is considered as the most powerful in the SUV segment. The auto shares the same engine as the Hellcat, which is good for 707 hp. The vehicle only falls a bit short in the torque department compared to the Hellcat. The Trackhawk has 645 lb-ft of torque while the Hellcat has 650 lb-ft. The SUV also boasts an all-wheel drive system.

4. 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

mustang shelby gt500

The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 packs a 5.8-liter supercharged V8 engine. The output of the unit is 662 hp and it can reach up to 202 mph.

5. 2018 Chevrolet Camaro Z06/Camaron ZL1

Tying in the fifth place of this list are the Chevrolet Camaro Z06 and the Camaro ZL1. Each car is equipped with 6.2-liter supercharged V8 with 650 hp. The ZL1 has faster shift times than the Z06 though as it has a 10-speed automatic gearbox compared to its sibling’s eight-speed unit.

Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Transformed Into “The Exorcist” by Hennessey

hennessey performance chevrolet camaro zl1 the exorcist 1

The Hennessey Performance Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, also known as “The Exorcist”, is placed on the dyno to find out the actual power going to its wheels.

Hennessey Performance took a shot at the new Dodge Challenger SRT Demon with its tuned Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 rechristened as “The Exorcist”. The performance of the auto was raised to a total of 1,000 hp to beat the 840 hp possessed by its rival car.

The Boost

The Chevy Camaro ZL1 is equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 engine. The output of the unit is at 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. The power of the car is distributed via a 10-speed automatic transmission gearbox with manual shifting mode. The said factors allow the vehicle to sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds and gain a top speed of 195 mph.

The Exorcist reportedly to carries 1,000 hp in its tuned V8 engine. The dyno testing of the car resulted to 959 hp and 756 lb-ft of torque going to its tires. There is no data yet about its new acceleration time from zero to 60 mph but it should be incredibly faster than the stock numbers. The maximum speed of the vehicle is expected to get a bump too.

The Exorcist Vs the Demon

The Hennessey Performance Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 “The Exorcist” is yet to take on the Dodge Challenger Demon. So whether “The Exorcist” prevails against the “Demon”, or vice versa, in a drag race remains to be seen. Looking at the numbers though, the odds seem stacked in favor of the Camaro.

The source estimated that if the drivetrain power loss of a modern car, which is around 10 percent, is applied to “The Exorcist”, the overall power of the auto in the crank might be around 1,100 hp.

Top 5 Features Of The 2017 Holden Astra Sedan You Have To Know About

holden astra (1)

The 2017 Holden Astra sedan is the same Chevrolet Cruze that has been tested in the US. Only this time around, it’s wearing the Holden badge and carrying the Astra nameplate for the Australian market.

Here are the top 5 features of the car according to a report:

1. Powertrain

The biggest change happened under the hood. Instead of the Cruze’s 1.8-liter naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine and 1.6-liter turbo petrol, the Holden Astra sedan will be powered by a 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. Like the four-pot found on the Astra hatch, this can produce 114kW and 240Nm of torque.

2. Weight

The Astra is 113kg less in weight than the current Cruze. This allows an engine, which is basically not as powerful as other sedan’s, to pull the Astra significantly well. The Astra may be lacking a turbo engine, but the 1.4-liter makes good its promise to carry the Astra along. In terms of overall handling, the US-specification Cruze impressed drivers who tested it in Australia. After all, roads in Australia tend to be rougher than the ones in US soil.

3. Suspension

One of the biggest differences between the Cruze hatch and the Astra sedan is the setup of its suspension system. The hatch has a multi-link rear end while the sedan has a simpler torso beam or watts linkage hardware (depending on the models). That being said, the sedan may find it a bit difficult to compete with the hatch in terms of handling and driving experience.

4. Interior

holden astra (3)

An area of improvement for the sedan, though, is the cabin. It noticeable has an improved design and presentation, thanks to the MyLink infotainment system. The console between the front seats is larger and could therefore, store more, because of the elimination of a hand brake. However, this has been replaced by a foot brake, which is honestly worse than a hand brake considering the presence of electric park brakes these days.

5. Pricing

Holden has not released the official pricing yet, though the Astra is widely believed to start around the range of $21,000.

Top 3 Features of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

2018-chevrolet-traverse-6

If there is any automaker that understands Americans’ need for big cars, it’s General Motors. From their full-size Chevrolet to GMC to Cadillac SUVs, GM made a name for themselves in the truck and crossover segment.

1. Bigger Than Its Predecessor

We’re in the second generation of the Chevrolet Traverse, and it’s safe to say this new one won’t disappoint basing from sources. In fact, it mightily impresses. It has a wheelbase that is two inches longer than its predecessor, and is a full eight inches longer than the Acadia. This means that passengers will get to enjoy a roomier cabin—more headroom and legroom for the second- and third-row seats. That’s pretty impressive because the outgoing Traverse is already roomier than any of its contemporaries.

2. Cargo Area Is Smaller Than The Current Generation Chevrolet Traverse

Unfortunately, the cargo area couldn’t be bigger enough. It is smaller in dimensions. As to why, GM has yet to give out details on that. Don’t fret, though, because the next-generation Traverse’ 23 cubic feet space behind its third-row seating still beats that of its competitions: the Honda Pilot (16 cubic feet) and the Ford Explorer (21 cubic feet).

If you want more cargo space, you can opt not to have passengers and simply fold the second- and third-row seats. That will give you a total space of 99 cubic feet, down from 116 cubic feet on the current generation Traverse. Still, that’s a pretty impressive space compared to Volkswagen Atlas’ 97 cubic feet.

3. Seven- And Eight-Passenger Configurations Offered

You have options with the 2018 Traverse: either a seven-passenger seat or an eight-passenger seat configuration. The lower trim levels have three-seat benches for the second and third rows while the higher end versions sport two captain’s chairs in the middle row. You’ll be excited over the quick-release second-row seat that makes accessing the third row easier.

Top 3 Expectations From The Chevrolet Blazer

chevrolet-blazer-1

We are still unsure of what General Motors plans to call this midsize crossover seen being tested on the road. We assumed that the camouflaged Chevrolet vehicle being tested last week is indeed the model that hopes to bridge the gap between the Equinox and the Traverse.

Although it is smaller than the full-size Traverse, which is scheduled for a redesign for the 2018 model, the similarities are uncanny. Experts believe that this new vehicle from Chevrolet is going to be called the Blazer and that it will be the same size as the 2017 GMC Acadia.

1. It May Look Similar To The Acadia

The spy shots of the Chevrolet Blazer crossover SUV seen lately revealed the vehicle’s side profile. If we are to believe the photos we have just seen, we can assume that it will resemble the Acadia very closely.

But how did we know it was really a Chevy? Enough of the vehicle’s grille was visible through the camouflage and the sculpted headlights and LED daytime running lights are similar to the 2018 Equinox, which was brought to the limelight last September. Even the vehicle’s overall form gives off the feeling of it being a Chevrolet.

2. It Will Use The GM’s Chi Platform

Replacing the GM’s Theta Premium and Lambda platforms is the C1XX, pronounced as Chi. It is the platform specifically designed for the construction of midsize and full-size crossovers. Among its many features is that the power comes to the front wheels, it is transversely-mounted, its suspension system is dependent on the four wheels, it offers front- and all-wheel drives, it can support two- or three-row seating, and it has ample cargo space when the third row is up.

3. It Will Arrive As A 2018 Model Year

Before the Blazer is released to the market, we’ll get to see the redesigned Equinox first. The upgraded Equinox was made slower to give way to the Blazer, which will cover that part of the segment.

Reality Vs Concept: 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Alaskan Edition

chevrolet-silverado

Although the SEMA Auto show was mostly for outlandish concepts, the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Alaskan Edition Concept was actually based on a production truck the company will be introducing next year. Owners of the Silverado 2500HD can opt for the Alaskan Edition—a snow plow prep package.

The production version of the Alaskan Edition is rumored to be packing the following: front hook-ups for a snow plow, 18-inch wheels, Goodyear DuraTrac tires, roof market lights, spray-on bedliner, skid plates, 220-amp alternator, and heavy-duty front springs. The concept version also has these things with the addition of other components that make it stand out from the rest.

According to reports, the concept version will be boasting of a blue body color with silver accents and grizzly bear graphic, chrome finishing on the bumpers, grille and mirror caps, huge stainless steel snowplow, front suspension leveling kit, and 20-inch wheels. Snowplows do not come with the box, but customers can choose which snowplow to purchase based on budget and usage.

Before building the Alaskan Edition Concept, Chevy already started plans to make it. These actual plans are very close to what was sitting in front of everyone at SEMA. The only major change is the huge snowplow, which can be angled to either side or can be V-shaped to plow the snow forward.

In terms of interior, the production version of the Alaskan Edition can only be applied on the Work Truck and LT trim levels while the concept is based on the LTZ trim level, which has rubberized floor covering and standard-issue LTZ leather seats with the grizzly bear logo embroidered on them.

There are no changes in the concept’s drivetrain from the production version. After all, the production version already packs GM’s newest 6.6-liter Duramax V-8 turbodiesel that can produce 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque.

Top 5 Reasons Why the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV Will Be a Hit

2017-chevrolet-bolt-ev-2

The arrival of the Chevrolet Bolt EV is a milestone for the automobile industry. This only means the electric vehicle variant isn’t going away, and it’s actually here to stay.

Here are the top 5 reasons why the the Chevrolet Bolt EV will succeed in the market, according to a source:

1. It’s Priced Below $30,000

The Bolt is really priced at $37,495 in LT trim, but a $7,500 federal tax credit can pull that price down to under $30,000. That’s not to mention that there are states and municipalities that offer incentives if you use an electric car.

2. It Can Run Up to 238 Miles

The Bolt can cover 238 miles of ground, but that’s a relaxed and leisurely drive up the California coast. The exponential effects of aerodynamic mean that the faster you go, the more energy you consume. When set to 75 mph with the climate at 72 degrees, the Bolt’s battery can last up to 190 miles. That’s more than you need for daily driving. The Bolt also has three controls on its digital instrument panel: minimum, maximum, and a more prominent best estimated based on your driving style, use of accessories like headlights and audio and ambient conditions.

3. Fast Charging is Becoming Available

If you’re worried about the charging time, don’t be. For $750, Bolt owners can have the direct-current fast-charging capability via a Combined Charging System (CCS) port. As of September, there are already 1,061 CCS connectors in the US. These stations charge at 50 kilowatts, which, according to Chevrolet, means an added 90 miles of range in 30-minute charging. But that’s nothing compared to Tesla’s 2,010 Supercharger hookups with 120 kilowatts capacity.

4. It Offers Comfortable Driving Experience

The Bolt delivers comfort to both the driver and the passengers even over broken pavements, thanks to the low-mounted battery that is cushioned by well-tuned damping. In terms of chassis tuning, it is similar to the Cadillac CT6 and the Chevrolet Malibu.

5. It’s Less Than a Crossover, But More Than a Sedan

The Bolt is originally marketed as a crossover, though it looks nothing like it. The only thing similar with a crossover is the tall seating position because of the underfloor battery pack. It doesn’t have the ground clearance, though, of a crossover.

Sport Package for Chevrolet Malibu Announced for 2017 Model

2017 Chevrolet Malibu

The Chevrolet Malibu boasts a decent design, good crash test ratings, high reliability, average comfort features, and satisfying performance. Those are reasons why it has garnered above average reviews. Recently, the Sport Package for the 2017 model of the car was announced.

According to source, the new Sport Package only offers aesthetic updates to the LT trim of the 2017 Chevrolet Malibu. Inside, the steering wheel and shift knob are wrapped in leather. Outside, the Chevy Malibu receives a new rear spoiler and 18-inch 10-spoke wheels.

The Sport Package costs $875. Despite the subtle upgrade, the package will surely bring in a sporty appearance to the midsize car.

It should be noted that the Chevrolet Malibu already ditched its two sub-trim configuration. Instead, the range streamlined them into the LT trim.

The 2017 Chevrolet Malibu LT carries a 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engine. The output of the power unit is 160 hp. All that is distributed via a six-speed automatic transmission gearbox. The Malibu L and the LS also share the same spec.

Buyers who want more power from their car can opt for the Malibu hybrid with 182 hp or the Malibu Premier with 250 hp packed in its 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine. From the eight-speed automatic gearbox of the Malibu Premier, the new Premier model upgrades it to the nine-speed unit.

The other standard updates in the Chevy Malibu LS and LT lineup include the integration of the Apple CarPlay and the Android Auto into the car’s seven-inch touchscreen display. Another inclusion is the Teen Driver system of GM. The system lets parents monitor the driving habits of their teens.

The starting price of the Chevrolet Malibu is $22,555. That is for the L trim. The Premier trim is tagged at $31,850 while the LS and the LT are each worth $105 more than their predecessors.

2017 Chevrolet Camaro Models Get Lower Prices

chevrolet-camaro

Chevrolet announced price cuts on some of its 2017 Camaro models. The move is to keep the momentum of the Chevrolet Camaro going as it is now narrowing its gap with the Ford Mustang in terms of sales.

According to a source, the Camaro units affected by the price slashes are the 1LS base models as well as the convertible trims of the range. The cost of the products have dropped by $400 up to $2,900.

With the cuts, the report noted that the starting price of the Camaro 1LS model has gone down to $26,900 inclusive of destination charges. It is still more expensive than the Mustang V-6’s base price of $25,815. However, the new 1LS is $400 cheaper than it was before the price adjustment was made.

The article added that buyers will get more out of their money’s worth with the new 1LT model. Chevrolet retained all the features introduced in the discontinued 1LT manual trim with the standard 1LS manual-only variant. Despite the removal of the manual 1LT trim in the lineup, the automaker made up for it with its automatic transmission version.

The new 1LT comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission as a standard fit. The eight-speed automatic transmission feature used to be an optional purchase worth $1,495. The revamped Camaro 1LT automatic costs $27,595, which is $1,200 less than its older model.

The 1LT possesses the same engine present with the 1LS and 2LT models. The mentioned units have the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine as a standard and an optional 3.6-liter V6. The SS versions are equipped with the 6.2-liter V8 power unit.

The coupe trim prices remain untouched while the prices of the convertible models have price cuts of up to $2,900. The manual 1LS had the most cut, which currently costs $31,400. The rest like the 1LT automatic convertible and 2LT convertible have their starting prices dropped to $33,595 and $36,600, respectively. The two are now $2,200 and $1,800 lower than their original price tags.

The SS variants take a $1,000 dip too. The 1SS and the 2SS are presently priced at $43,900 and $48,900, respectively.
