Porsche Panamera Executive Unveiled at Shanghai Auto Show 2017

porsche panamera

Porsche just unveiled a long wheelbase version of its Panamera at the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show. The German automaker calls it the Porsche Panamera Executive.

China-Exclusive Model

First, it should be noted that the Panamera Executive will only be available in the Chinese market. Recognizing the potentials of the luxury vehicle segment in China and the preference of its rich personalities to be chauffeured to their destinations as they ride comfortably in the rear passenger seats, the automaker decided to offer the long wheelbase car in the giant Asian country.

Strong Demand for Luxury Cars in China

According to TheDrive, China was the strongest single market for the Porsche brand in 2015 to 2016. In a year on year basis, the sales of the brand rose up to 12 percent. The vehicles delivered by the brand to customers numbered up to 65,246. So far, the automaker seems to be carrying over its momentum this year.

From a market data, it was recorded that luxury SUVs and sedans have huge following from wealthy Chinese consumers. The sports car line does not enjoy the same level of demand but Porsche remained popular, especially for younger buyers. Among the company’s best-sellers were the Macan, Panamera and 911 units.

The Panamera Executive was showcased by Porsche during the event together with the 911 GTS and 911 GT3 models, which are the two more popular products of Porsche in China last year. The said cars saw an 11% spike in sales from 2015 to 2016.

5 Models to Choose From

Porsche revealed all five new long wheelbase models in Shanghai. These include the Panamera 4 Executive, Panamera 4S Executive, Panamera Turbo Executive, Panamera 4S E-Hybrid Executive, and Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Executive.

Drivetrain

The Panamera Executive has a rear-wheel drive system. The lineup is highlighted by the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. The car is powered by a 3.0-liter turbo V6 engine. The unit is capable of producing a 330 hp output.

Top 3 Things to Look Forward to in the New Porsche 911 GT3 RS

porsche 911 gt3 rs (2)

The prototype for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS was spotted cruising the roads of Germany in a series of spy shots.

After unveiling the new Porsche 911 GT3 at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, we are in for another treat again from the German automaker. Latest spy shots reveal that a Porsche 911 GT3 RS is in the works.

What have we learned so far and what can we expect from the upcoming sports car? Here are the top three things to look forward to when it comes out in the market:

1. Design Changes

From the looks of it, the next 911 GT3 RS is just a cosmetically enhanced version of the 911 GT3. The car has wider fenders with new air intakes at the rear part, revised front bumper, updated headlamps and added vents on the hood.

The interior of the 911 GT3 RS might see subtle upgrades compared to the standard 911 GT3. It’s hard to tell for now basing from the angle the spy pictures were taken. It should get new sporty leather trims as well as new pedals and steering wheel.

2. Engine Boost

The major change should come from the sports car’s power unit. Currently, the 911 GT3 is packing 500 hp. The 911 GT3 RS is expected to get an extra 20 hp to 40 hp in its flat-six engine compared to its standard version. The power of the car will probably be complemented with a manual transmission gearbox to attain optimum performance.

3. Arrival

Looking at the spy images, the prototype is almost in its final stage of development. Therefore, the possible debut of the vehicle is in September of this year. The likely venue for its world premiere is at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, since that is the major auto show coinciding with that period.

4 Amazing Stuff About the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid

Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid (1)

The Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid.

It’s all about the Geneva Motor Show right now as the event comes near in our calendars. Porsche will be featuring the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid and the station wagon-like Panamera Sport Tourismo in the event.

In this article, let us take a look at the amazing features of the new Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid:

1. Most Powerful of Its Kind

The best thing about the Turbo S E-Hybrid is that it is capable of producing up to 680 hp with 627 lb-ft of torque. The power is distributed to all the four wheels of the car through an eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission gearbox. The vehicle benefits from the technology used in the 918 Spyder, particularly in the adaptation of the boost strategy.

The Turbo S E-Hybrid can accelerate zero to 100 km/h in a whopping 3.4 seconds. The maximum speed of the car is up to 310 km/h.

2. Combustion Engine Output

The first unit powering the Turbo S E-Hybrid is a combustion engine in the form of a 4.0-liter V8. The engine provides 550 hp for the car.

3. Electric Motor Output

The second power source of the Turbo S E-Hybrid comes from an electric motor. The unit offers an additional 136 hp for the vehicle. The 14.1 kWh battery pack of the auto allows it to cover a distance of around 50 kilometers before totally discharging.

4. Add-Ons

For buyers who want to personalize the Turbo S E-Hybrid, Porsche said that they could get the Executive version of the car with a longer wheelbase measuring 150 mm. The other options for the auto include the installation of air suspension, 21-inch wheels, ceramic brakes torque vectoring, Dynamic Chassis Control Sport and enhanced air conditioning system.

2018 Porsche 718 Boxster GTS vs 2018 Audi TT-RS vs BMW M2

The redesigned Porsche Boxster, which was first introduced back in 2012, took styling cues from the 911 and the 918 Spyder. Aside from that, this model also has a more rigid chassis and a revised engine lineup that includes smaller, turbocharged flat-four powerplants.

The spy shots did not reveal much of the Porsche 718 Boxster GTS design but if we are basing our judgment on the previous model, we can expect that the car would have a more aggressive front fascia with larger air intakes below the headlamps. A wider lower grille can also be expected because it would work on improving the roadster’s aerodynamics.

We didn’t see the new bumper yet but if the spoiler lip is any indication, it looks like Porsche is getting ready to treat the car to a better downforce. All of these should be finished with dark matte gray color.

Audi TT-RS

audi-tt-rs

The Audi TT-RS made use of the company’s latest styling language, which has more angular lines and sportier stance compared to the previous design. The TT-RS definitely isn’t as sleek as the Boxster GTS, but fans of a massive “singleframe” grille and big bumper intakes should be happy to note these on the Audi. The race-inspired look of the TT-RS is menacing, to say the least, and that’s also thanks to the carbon-look mirror caps, massive spoiler, and muscular wheel arches.

BMW M2

bmw-m2

The M2 is bigger than the Boxster since it is essentially a smaller M4 with better proportions. It has a more compact size, though, than the M4. This makes the coupe look lighter, faster, and easier to handle. The M2 is sportier than the TT-RS, but it still might fail in comparison to the Boxster GTS because the Porsche has that race-car layout of putting the engine in the rear. It’s all a matter of taste, really. Plus, we haven’t seen the convertible model of the M2 yet.

Mercedes-AMG GT 4 vs 2018 Porsche Panamera vs 2018 Bentley Continental GT

Since Mercedes is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its AMG division, it’s safe to assume that a new Vision concept will soon be unveiled. Reportedly, it is going to be a high-performance four-door super saloon that would be pitted against the likes of the 2018 Porsche Panamera and the 2018 Bentley Continental GT.

Mercedes GT 4

For now, the rumored Mercedes-AMG GT 4 is codenamed X290 until its supposed unveiling in 2019. Reports are saying that the super car will be powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. It is scheduled to hit the market sometime in 2019 with a starting price of $148,000. The model will be based on the same Mercedes architecture and platform that are being used on the C 63, E 63, S 63 AMG variants.

There will be two versions of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine available to the market. The range-topping S 4MATIC+ variant will be able to produce more than 600 horsepower. There are also plans to use an integrated starter generator to complement the V-8 engine.

None of these details have been confirmed yet since these are all concept of the GT 4 for now.

2018 Porsche Panamera

The new Panamera ushered in a new exterior and interior designs, a new engine lineup, and plenty of tech goodies such as LED headlights, safety assistance systems, an innovative chassis system, a 21-speaker Burmester 3D sound system, and plenty of personalization options.

It currently has two models—the Panamera 4S with a 2.9-liter, twin-turbo V-6 that can produce 440 horsepower; and the Panamera Turbo with a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 engine that churns out 550 horsepower.

2018 Bentley Continental GT

The rumored updates for the 2018 Continental GT aren’t much, except for tweaked styling on the exterior, a new V-8 engine, and an upgraded interior. It apparently packs the shortened version of Porsche’s MSB platform, though the higher-end model will reportedly have a 6.0-liter, W-12 engine. No official word on that, though.

2017 BMW 6 Series Takes on Porsche Panamera and Audi S7

2017-bmw-6-series-1

A possible 2017 BMW 6 Series was spotted testing on the road. It will have a new lightened chassis, upgraded tech for the cabin and refreshed styling on the outside.

Although details are still up in the air, what is clear is that it will be competing against the Porsche Panamera and the Audi S7.

Based on the spy shots, the fourth generation model of the BMW 6 Series will offer a roof with an angled approach towards the rear end, which promises to give the car a fastback profile. It also has a trailing spoiler and revamped taillights on the rear, and a kidney grille and slimmer headlights up front.

In terms of dimension, this is still in the midsize range, though it will carry the chassis code G14, G15, and G16, replacing the outgoing model’s designation of F12, F13, and F06, respectively.

Under the hood, the new BMW 6 Series will have the same powerplant treatment as the new 5 Series, meaning a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder from the 540i. Output is a mean 350 horsepower and 340 pound-feet of torque.

Currently, the 6 Series is pegged at $77,600, but the top-of-the-line model can go as high as $100,000.

Porsche Panamera or the BMW 6 Series?

For under $80,000, the Porsche Panamera—all that power—can be yours. It combines the power of a high-end sports car with the functionality of a five-door hatchback.

If you have the extra juice, meaning $100,000, you can get the Turbo S model, which has a 911-performance, thanks to its twin-turbo V-8 that can produce 570 horsepower. This can make the Panamera go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. It has a maximum speed of 192mph.

The Panamera also comes packing with the Porsche Active Suspension Management with three different drive modes—Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus.

If BMW plans to compete with this through the 6 Series, it better bring its A game.

9 Spy Shots Show Bentley Flying Spur Prototype Testing

bentley-flyng-spur-2

The Porsche Panamera Turbo is utilized as a test mule for the next-generation Bentley Flying Spur.

Spy shots of a Bentley Flying Spur prototype recently emerged online. The photos show the car being tested on wet conditions.

But how come the pictures here show a black Porsche Panamera Turbo?

While the photos indeed show a blacked-out Panamera, Autoblog claimed that the car is merely serving as a test mule for the Flying Spur. It makes sense that Bentley would use the Panamera to test the prototype of the Flying Spur because the two share the same platform. The new Panamera uses the MSB platform.

Another indication that we are looking at a test mule for the Flying Spur is the license plate of the Panamera. According to the photographer who captured the spy shots, the plate number of the auto is registered as a Bentley under UK’s Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency.

Since the Flying Spur is the four-door variant of the Bentley Continental GT, expect the next-generation of the car to get many of the styling elements presented in the EXP 10 Speed 6 concept that was unveiled last year at the Geneva Motor Show.

bentley

The source said the upcoming Flying Spur might keep the same powertrains available in the Panamera as the two share the same platform anyway. Therefore, expect the inclusion of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engines in the selection.

The Flying Spur concept is rumored to make its world premiere next year. The production model of the car will probably come out the following year.
