3 Reasons Why the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 50 is Awesome
The Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 50 was just unveiled. As its name implies, the car was made in line with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of AMG.
The special edition car offers many upgrades compared to the standard Mercedes-AMG GT3, which makes it a must-have for collectors. Here are the key features of the vehicle that truly makes it awesome:
1. Engine
The Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 50 still uses the 6.3-liter naturally-aspirated V8 engine. The unit is capable of producing 622 hp and 635 Nm of torque. The power is distributed through a six-speed sequential racing transmission. The mentioned elements allow the auto to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in merely 3.8 seconds. The maximum speed of the vehicle is electronically-limited to 332 km/h.
It should be noted that the 6.3-liter V8 used by the AMG GT3 is already a rare hardware and it is the last naturally-aspirated engine to be used by Mercedes in its cars. It was used by the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 but the Mercedes-AMG GT3 carried it over due to its reliability, low-maintenance and power.
2. Styling
The Edition 50 car sports a more aggressive look than its original version. It is fitted with new carbon fiber materials plus its bumpers, side skirts, diffuser and rear wing have been redesigned. The body of the auto takes a gray metallic finish. The noticeable additions in the special GT3 include the big vents above the front fenders and “50 Years of Driving Performance” badges on the sides.
Inside, the car gets new carbon fiber racing seats, rollcage and GT3-inspired, racing steering wheel. A couple of upgrades can be seen in its instrument cluster too. The same “50 Years of Driving Performance” badges can be found in its safety harnesses.
3. Exclusivity
The Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 50 is only limited to five units. It is specifically made for collectors who love motorsport.

Mercedes-AMG GT Concept Car Shown at the Geneva Motor Show
The Mercedes-AMG GT Concept car was finally unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. From the information, photos and video released by Daimler about the high-performance saloon, there is a lot to be excited about when the production version of the vehicle hits the market.
Check out the features of the Mercedes-AMG GT Concept based on the Global Media Site of Daimler AG:
Exterior
The Mercedes-AMG GT Concept is the four-door variant of the Mercedes-AMG GT sports car. Significant improvements can be seen in the styling of the concept vehicle compared to its two-door counterpart.
The AMG GT Concept copies many exterior elements found in the AMG GT. However, due to the four-door design of the concept car, it appears more muscular and spacious than its AMG GT sibling. The body lines on the sides are also removed to give way to a smoother body that allows the artistic reflection of light from the vehicle’s surroundings. Then the front grille of the auto adopts the Panamericana design found in the facelifted AMG GT.
Engine
The AMG GT Concept makes use of the new 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine of Mercedes. The combustion unit is paired with an electric motor to give it a performance boost. According to Daimler, the concept vehicle was able to produce up to 600 kW in its latest testing. The automaker aims to make the zero to 100 km/h acceleration of the car to be achieved in under three seconds.
The four-door AMG GT can be driven using solely its combustion engine. The driver can opt to use its electric motor alone too. To utilize the maximum performance of the car, its operating mode can be set to use both power units to fully take advantage of its hybrid drivetrain.

Mercedes-Benz Is Planning A Sub-Brand For Electric Models
Recent reports have indicated that known luxury car maker Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to build an entire sub-brand for electric vehicles, following the success of Tesla’s luxury EVs. It seems the German automaker wants to cash in to what was once perceived to be merely a hype tech geeks, engineers and moguls have created.
Last June, Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Mercedes-Benz’s parent company Daimler, said that the automaker plans to introduce its first EV at the Paris Motor Show in October. According to reports, the model would be a direct competition to the Tesla Model S, and will have a 310-mile range either to meet or exceed what the Tesla model can deliver.
Expected to be built in Germany, Merc’s new EV will carry whatever moniker the automaker conceives to challenge BMW’s i label.
Tesla’s Model 3 currently has 373,000 reservations, so it’s fairly obvious this is not merely a trend. Mercedes wants to capitalize on that interest, and the timing now is just about right.
But to get to that point, the company has to invest extensively in research and development toward EVs. This is in part of the German automaker’s larger plan to boost its R&D spending from $6.3 billion in 2014 and $7.3 billion in 2015.
Passenger cars are not the only vehicles Daimler is looking to turn into electric-based. The Urban e-Truck prototype has proven that electric distribution is already a must in deliveries within the city.
Mercedes-Benz is not exactly oblivious of what Tesla has been doing. Its parent company Daimler has invested heavily in Tesla, and in fact earns a 10-percent stake in Tesla Motors in 2010, though its remaining 4 percent was sold in 2014.
It has even purchased Tesla batteries for the B-Class Electric and Tesla was the one that developed the whole propulsion system for the early version of Smart Electric Drive.
2018 Mercedes-AMG GT Roadster To Arrive In 2017
The roadster version of the Mercedes-AMG GT series is scheduled to arrive by 2017, spy shots confirmed. There were rumors earlier that the German luxury automaker plans to skip building an AMG GT Roadster to protect its SL-Class Roadster, which hasn’t been doing well in the market.
However, the new spy shots just proved that the roadster is indeed coming as anticipated. This isn’t that surprising because Mercedes developed the GT with the Porsche 911 Turbo as competition. Since Porsche came out with a drop-top version of the range-topping model, Mercedes will have to follow suit if it doesn’t want to lose the challenge.
On the outside, the Mercedes-AMG GT roadster has a slightly longer deck lid and it will also come without its fixed roof. The soft top will be similar to the shape of the SLS AMG. This is a minor change from the current version, but it does ensure that the body style can transition without exactly ruining the car’s sleek appearance.
Inside, the roadster will enjoy the same aviation-inspired theme with the wing-like dashboard with spotlight-style A/C vents in the center stack. There are also the concave-shaped door panels and the motorsport-inspired center console that is stacked with the AMG Drive Unit controls.
Passengers will get to experience the luxurious seating made of high quality materials that include leather, Alcantara, contrast stitching, and exemplary fit and finish. This elegant interior will be finished off by the “infinite” headroom, thanks to the option of a removable roof.
The infotainment system will also be very similar to the coupe and it will include the latest apps and features.
Under the hood, you’ll find Mercedes-AMG’s twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V-8 that can churn out 456 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. The AMG GT S version will get you 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.
There is no information yet about the pricing though it is expected that the GT S Roadster will debut at $137,000.
Mercedes-Benz To Introduce Four Electric Vehicles By 2020
Mercedes-Benz is looking at releasing four electric vehicles by the end of the year 2020. Sources said the company will be producing two sedans and two SUVs to comprise the first tranche of electronically powered vehicles Merc is looking at developing.
Each electric vehicle model will share the basic elements of models already part of Merc’s current lineup, but the company also promised that the models will have distinct designs to set them apart from their conventionally powered counterparts.
This move came on the heels of the German government’s announcement of sales subsidies for all EVs priced at less than €60,000, or $67,150 based on current exchange rate.
This German government policy is part of the bigger scheme to attract would-be buyers to consider EVs instead of gasoline- or diesel-powered engines.
Of course, such a decision from Merc can also be seen as the company’s attempt to keep up with the fast-rising EV market, something other automakers have taken advantage of in the past months. Tesla Model 3’s 370,000 orders certainly made an impact.
Merc has reportedly taken a €500 million expansion of their existing battery production facilities in Germany to prepare for their EV plans.
Although not a surprise, Merc’s move is still a welcome development. There are no details released regarding this new direction the company is taking, but R&D chief Thomas Weber hinted that the current C-Class and S-Class models, as well as the GLA and GLC SUVs, will be the templates for the four EVs planned.
In particular, the GLA-based SUV model will tap the reworked version of the MFA platform that Merc is already using on its B-Class Electric Drive, which is technically Mercedes’ first EV. The other three models, on the other hand, will probably use the evolved version of the MRA, which was developed particularly for electronic vehicles.
Mercedes-Maybach SUV Might Be In The Works
We might have dreamed about it until the day came. It was quite hard to imagine that the luxury SUVs have finally arrived. The three-pointed star marque has once again hinted that it might join the ultra elite group of carmakers with a Mercedes-Maybach SUV.
Merc is the latest in the long line of luxury carmakers that bit into the trend. Bentley has the Bentayga. Rolls Royce has the Project Cullinan. Lamborghini has the Urus by 2018. Aston Martin has a plan based on the DBX concept.
However, a Merc official said that although Mercedes is willing and even able to build a luxury SUV, it cannot be done on the current platform. So, if ever Merc does build a luxury SUV, it would be on the next generation platform.
This makes sense, of course, since Maybach’s release, which was based on a completely different portfolio than the previous version, has been widely successful in places like China.
In China, the automaker sold more of the new long-wheelbase Mercedes-Maybach S-Class in a month than it was able to do so during the old Maybach’s “best year.” This renaissance was the push Merc needed in order to plan ahead again.
An SUV based on this current lineup is a wise decision, especially because the SUV has been slowly catering to Merc drivers as well. Since bringing back the M-Class in 1997, the SUV segment has been successful.
Ola Källenius, a Merc board member, said there is an unbroken trend in SUV because people love the high seats, sporty image and all-around usefulness for outdoor adventures. He believes the SUV trend will continue in years to come.
In Mercedes, 30 to 40 percent of the portfolio are SUVs, which Källenius said all carry the Mercedes imaging, meaning there’s no actual conflict in creating a Maybach SUV.
2016 Mercedes-Benz MLC
Mercedes-Benz, the name itself oozes out class and luxury. This German car manufacturer has been ruling the luxury car market charts of the entire world since almost a decade now. Mercedes has been the choice of the elite for ages now. Sedan, SUVs and Crossovers models have been the best selling cars of the brand all over the world.
Mercedes is now gearing up to launch its new SUV model MLC in the year 2016. SUVs are gaining popularity even in the luxury segments with Audi leading the charts. This new model of Mercedes is structured on the grounds of its prevalent M-class. This SUV is believed to be an answer to the BMW X6, which is an amalgamation of SUV features and a firm sporting look. Mercedes-Benz is now experimenting in producing a luxurious SUV with more and more sporty features and looks. The design as well as specs are modified to be given the shape of a SUV.
The pictures and elaborate information of the MLC SUV are not yet officially revealed but the talks about it are already high in the market. This elegantly designed sports utility vehicle lives up to the standard of a Mercedes and its exterior as well as interior is modishly designed. As per the car gurus who were able to grab a glimpse of the new Mercedes-Benz, here are some exterior and interior features.
Exterior specifications of the Mercedes-Benz that have been unveiled:
- Ultra stylish LED headlights
- Angled hood
- Short front overhang
- Visible broad lower air intake
- The arched roof line, large wheels, and wheel arches are quite clear
- The sliver of glass that forms the side windows is also very much visible
- The tail lights are a bit taller than the regular razor-thin examples present in the concept coupe SUV
Interiors are said to be as lavish as the other Mercedes products but the final details are yet to arrive. Mercedes lovers from all across the globe await this newly designed MLC SUV. Going into the details about the powertrains.
The powertrains are similar as the M-class which includes:
- 3.5-liter V-6 gasoline engine
- 4.6-liter twin-turbo V-8
- 3.0-liter turbodiesel
- 5.5-liter twin-turbo V-8
Also, a new and advanced hybrid model of the M-Class Coupe is in the making, which is predicted to be a combination of 3.5-liter V-6 and the hybrid electric setup of the E400 Hybrid sedan.
The price of this M-Class coupe is yet to be announced but it is obviously going to be a bit expensive as it is 2016 Mercedes-Benz. Spy pictures of the MLC are out on the web but are not detailed. Also, it is unsure whether, Mercedes will go ahead with the same name MLC or pick up a new name for their sports utility vehicle. Whatever the name is, it is a Mercedes product and with that stamp the car is ought to be super stylish and extravagant in looks and design. MLC will face a tough competition as Audi is also coming up with Q8 nearly around the same time. Time will only decide the success or failure of the MLC SUV.
The Mercedes Benz S65 AMG
All that comes to mind, when someone says Mercedes Benz S Class, is limitless luxuries, generous amount of comfort and of course the ultimate styling which apparently comes natural to the brand as well as to the vehicles that share their names with it. What does not seems so obvious, while talking about the S Class lineup is a great deal of power. That is exactly when the Mercedes Benz S65 AMG steps in to leave all in awe. The SUV combines with the limitless luxury, style and comfort an equal sum of power. As huge as it can get, the Mercedes Benz S65 AMG, in practice, delivers a whopping 621 horsepower. As it was not enough in itself, the SUV is powered by a 12 cylinder twin turbocharged engine. With the class and styling of a true Mercedes S class and the power of God, what more can anybody ask for from the 2015 Mercedes Benz S65 AMG.
Hidden under the hood of this grand vehicle, is a 6.0 liter twin turbocharged V-12 grunt. It is basically like Mercedes S550 taken to a darker, more powerful level of mightiness. There are no significant changes in the 12 cylinder engine from the previous generation of the Mercedes Benz S65. The huge numbers see no stopping for the 2015 Mercedes Benz S65 AMG, as, along with the V-12 engine that produces a mighty 621 horsepower, it also produces a massive amount of torque that sums up at 738 pound feet. The transmission that backs up the amazingly powerful engine is AMG’s seven speed dual clutch automatic transmission which s anticipated to dramatically enhance the shift responses. The earlier generation of the S65 sported a seven speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The tremendously engine is capable of cruising up the s65 AMG to 60 mph from rest in a sprint time of merely 4.2 seconds. However, this is the claimed value by the brand. The calculated value of the top speed the vehicle can reach comes out to be about 155 mph. The brand, however, claims that a few extra additions and changes the 2015 Mercedes Benz AMG can attain a top speed of an impressive 200 mph.
The 2015 Mercedes Benz S65 AMG is a proud sportier of the brand’s Magic Body Control feature. Because of being real wheel driven, the S65’s architecture allows the Active Body Control Suspension. The feature is essentially needed for the vehicle to have magic Body Control.
The interiors of the 2015 S65 hold on to the previous generation. As sumptuous and comforting it can get, the 2015 Mercedes Benz S65 AMG doesn’t fail on being the absolutely luxurious vehicle, truly Mercedes.
The 2015 S65 faces a fair amount of competition from similar SUVs like the BMW’s 760 or Audi’s S8 or as for that matter, even the Bentley’s Flying Spur. All the vehicles sport comparably powerful engines. But the 2015 Mercedes Benz S65 AMG takes precedence over the other because of being absolutely stylish and absolutely Mercedes.
Mercedes Flaunts Excellence With its 2014 M Class SUV!
Mercedes is known for its extraordinary luxury sedans that it has been producing, and had lately been taking steps to get into the SUV world as well. It was doing quite well till now but with the new 2014 M Class SUV, the company has very literally scored an ace. The M Class is a delightful blend of a legendary off road performance and the flawless luxury sedan like comfort, feel and ride that Mercedes is most famous for!
The Mercedes M Class is one SUV whose off road capabilities will never be judged to the fullest by an average user. The 2014 model of the SUV makes sure that along with these capabilities, the M Class also looks aggressive enough to flaunt off its off road capabilities. Although the Mercedes M Class looks much more aggressive, it is as amazing as the luxurious Mercedes sedans are from the inside. Flaunting luxurious as well as extremely spacious interiors, the M Class makes up to one of the best choices in the five seater crossover category!
Since we are talking of the vehicle’s interiors, it is necessary to mention that how amazing and comfortable are its seats and interiors. As far as the front seats are concerned, they come well equipped with features and comforts that one must expect from a Mercedes. The second row is also extremely spacious for tall people. However, it might feel a little congested if three adults are to be seated simultaneously. You will instantly notice the difference between the interiors of the 2014 model and the previous models as the company has made use of much finer materials in the interiors, making the feel and the ride as amazing as other Mercedes sedans!
Besides the feel and comfort, the M Class also flaunts of the ride and performance matching that of the company’s luxurious sedans. The SUV comes in four different models – RWD ML350, 4Matic ML350, 4Matic ML350 BlueTEC and the 4Matic ML550. The first two models are the base models and come with V6 petrol engines of 3500cc displacement. The RWD model comes with a rear wheel drive while all others come with all-wheel drive systems. The 4Matic ML350 BLueTEC is the diesel variant and comes with an intercooled V6 turbo diesel engine with a 3000cc displacement. The top model (ML550) comes with a petrol engine as well. However, it is much more powerful than the base models as the engine used is a 4700cc V8 engine with twin turbo premium unleaded injection. One can even enhance the performance of their vehicles if they opt for the packages that the company provides.
The Mercedes M Class features extraordinary off road performance as the company provides many specific features under the 4Matic tag. 4Matic’s 4-ETS torque distribution system is capable of distributing nearly all of the engine’s torque to any one of the wheel in need. The vehicle’s suspension is also strikingly efficient for both on road and off road usage. The company also provides customers with a special dedicated off road performance package which loads up the M class with features like the automatically detaching roll-bar system.
Aston Martin Tries to Make Impression on the SUV Market With the Lagonda SUV Concept
After all the automobile giants like Mercedes, Porsche, Audi, etc. luxury car makers have also decided of making their way into the segment and bring for the SUV world some of the most luxurious (and expensive!) SUVs ever seen! After the news of Bentley, Rolls Royce and Lamborghini stepping into the category, we couldn’t think of any other but Aston Martin, who had signed a deal with Mercedes – AMG some time back.
Aston Martin first revealed its Lagonda SUV Concept at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, which was not liked very much by the SUV world as critics as well as SUV lovers did not really develop a liking for the vehicle. The company realized that there would have been a lot of changes to be made before they could expect good sales result after launching the SUV. A thing to be noticed is that this was before the company signed the deal with Mercedes – AMG. With access to the latter’s excellent engineering and electronic assets, Aston Martin has planned of making the Lagonda all different. One of the largest changes to be made is that the Lagonda will now feature Mercedes Benz GL Class platform. Earlier it sat on the Mercedes Benz M Class platform.
All that Aston Martin is going through for the Lagonda SUV Concept reminds us of Porsche’s story which happened during the launch of the Cayenne. The SUV was also highly criticized during its concept period. People accused the Cayenne of being ugly as per Porsche standards. However, after the release of the SUV, Porsche reported huge rises in sales, and the Cayenne turned out to be a huge success. A lot of people are saying that the Lagonda is extremely ugly, especially since Aston Martin has presented gorgeous vehicles like the DB9 and the One – 77 to the world. However, the performance and luxury quotients of the Lagonda are unquestionable! It’s an Aston Martin after all!
As far as the engine is concerned, we’re pretty sure that the company will put in a 6000cc V12 engine in the SUV. Lagonda will definitely be a four wheel drive vehicle, and will share motors with the legendary Aston MartinDB9. One admirable thing about the Lagonda is that the SUV will come with a wode number of available powertrains, and customers will be given a choice as per their will. One will be able to choose from a diesel variant, petrol as well as a hybrid option. This facility combined with the capabilities of the all-wheel drive system that comes with the Lagonda makes it a very potential vehicle for off road experiences!
We agree that the exteriors of the car are not as good as is expected from the company, but they have definitely set a new bar when it comes to luxurious and elegant interiors. However, Aston martin will definitely face extreme competition as it is entering a segment where giants like Porsche, Audi, Volkswagen, etc. have already made deep impressions. Beating legendary SUVs like the Cayenne, Touareg, Q7, etc. would definitely be very tough. We would love to see how the improved Lagonda fares in the SUV market.
