5 Key Features of the Alpine A110

renault alpine (1)

The new Alpine A110 was recently unveiled at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show. The sports car is its maker’s response to the Porsche 718 Cayman.

So, should Porsche be worried about the new 718 rival from Renault‘s Alpine sports car brand in the form of the A110?

See the five key features of the Alpine A110 here to decide for yourself if it is indeed a worthy adversary to the Porsche 718:

1. Engine

The Alpine A110 is a mid-engined sports car. It houses a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The output of the unit is 249 hp with 320 Nm of torque. The power is directed to the rear wheels and distributed through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

2. Performance

The Alpine A110’s engine output may be lower than the Cayman S by around 50 hp. However, thanks to the lighter body of the A110, it can outrun the Cayman S from a zero to 62 mph sprint.

Alpine claimed that its sports car can achieve that kind of run in just 4.5 seconds. Then its top speed can reach up to 155 mph.

3. Exterior

The A110 carries the styling found in the Alpine Vision Concept that came out in 2016. Based on the photos of the A110 and the Vision Concept, everything seems to be similar in the design of the two. The lighting system appears to be updated to incorporate the latest tech of Alpine plus the wheels offer a new look though.

The A110 has that retro-futuristic approach in its design. It still possesses the classy A110 “Berlinette” genes but it combines with it a 21st century detailing found in its concept version.

4. Interior

The A110 gets a mix of high-end leather, aluminum and carbon fiber trim in its interior surfaces. The materials used and layout of it its seats, dashboard, controls, steering wheel, foot pedals and other parts inside once again follow the car’s concept form last year.

5. Arrival

The car is expected to arrive late this year or in the early part of 2018. Its starting price is estimated to be at least £60,000.

Pagani Huayra Roadster Debuts at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show

pagani huayra roadster (5)

The Pagani Huayra Roadster just made its debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The supercar is considered by its company founder Horacio Pagani as the most complicated project they ever had.

According to the Pagani website, it took the automaker six years to develop the high-performance auto. Check out the key features of the supercar below:

Engine

The Pagani Huayra Roadster is powered by a handcrafted Mercedes-AMG 6.0-liter biturbo V12 engine. The unit produces 764 hp at 5,500 rpm and 100 Nm of torque from 2,300 to 4,300 rpm. All that power is distributed to the rear wheels via a single-clutch manual transmission seven-speed gearbox.

Pagani is yet to release the details about the zero to 62 mph acceleration time of the supercar. However, considering the roadster’s higher output than its 722 hp coupe version and its light frame, it is estimated to be able to achieve such feat in less than three seconds and a split-second faster than its roofed sibling.

Design

The Pagani Huayra Roadster borrows many styling elements found in the Pagani Huayra coupe as well as the Pagani Huayra BC. The roadster may have a more rigid A-Pillar and some of its parts have been reinforced to make up for the absence of its fixed roofing, but it was successful in reducing its weight by 70 kg compared to the coupe.

The weight reduction of the roadster is thanks to its detachable rooftop that makes use of carbon and glass materials. In addition, the vehicle makes use of light monoque chassis.

Moreover, the roadster is fitted with a set of forged aluminum alloy app monolythic wheels measuring 20 inches and 21 inches for the front and rear, respectively. The wheels are wrapped in Pirelli tires.

Pricing

The Pagani Huayra Roadster’s starting price is at €2.28 million or around $2.41 million. The cost is exclusive of taxes and delivery charges.

Exclusivity

Only 100 samples of the supercar will be released in the market.

Ferrari 812 Superfast is as Its Name Claims

ferrari 812 superfast (1)

The Ferrari 812 Superfast makes its way to the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. It looks like the car definitely lives up to its name.

Engine

The 812 Superfast possesses a 6.5-liter naturally-aspirated V12 engine beneath its hood. As the name of the car implies, it is capable of producing up to 812 hp at 8,500 rpm. Its 718 Nm torque can also be reached at 7,000 rpm. The power of the auto is distributed to the rear wheels via a dual-clutch transmission.

The 812 Superfast can accelerate from zero to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds. The top speed of the auto is around 211 mph.

Design

The 812 Superfast is the successor of the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Therefore, the new car carries over many styling elements found in its predecessor.

What makes the exterior of the 812 Superfast stand out against the F12 Berlinetta though is the new car’s smoother shape and body lines. The cosmetic changes makes the 812 Superfast appear more balanced and have better proportions than the F12 Berlinetta. Then, the fascia of the new car gives it a more aggressive look than the model it replaced.

The 812 Superfast is inspired by the 1969 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 “Daytona” as well. The rear of the auto brings back the traditional round taillights of the classic car.

The interior of the 812 Superfast show huge improvements too. The seats of the car are revamped for a sportier setup and it offers several upgrades in its infotainment system.

What’s in the Name?

Aside from the very obvious high-performance feature of the 812 Superfast, its name can be traced back to the time when Enzo Ferrari fitted a huge V12 intended to a smaller vehicle to his prototype muscle car. He would call the car the Ferrari 4.9 Superfast according to the interview of Flavio Manzoni, head of the Ferrari Design Center.

Flying Car Shown at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show

flying car

Aerospace industry leader Airbus together with design and engineering company Italdesign just unveiled a flying car at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The vehicle is called “Pop.Up”.

Pop.Up is a concept for a futuristic autonomous transport vehicle that can travel through land and air. It uses a modular passenger capsule that can be attached to a four-wheel base for land trips and to a quadcopter for flight. As its name “Pop.Up” implies, the capsule easily snaps with the wheeled or aerial modules depending on its user’s preferred mode of travel.

The flying car features an artificial intelligence system that allows its self-driving and auto-pilot functions. It can be commanded by the user with a smartphone or tablet. The video of the concept vehicle also shows a potential technology within the auto that previews the facial recognition system of its onboard sensors.

The vehicle is environmentally-friendly. It uses electric motor, which allows it to have a zero emission value.

Airbus envisions Pop.Up as a part of its network of shared vehicle platform that offers easy commuting options to the public. The company aims to lessen traffic congestion with its flying car.

The idea of a flying vehicle may be too good to be true for now, especially that automakers are still racing to make road-worthy self-driving cars. It should be noted too that there are expected legal hurdles when it comes to unleashing autonomous cars on the road—let alone a flying car. Furthermore, a lot of public infrastructure may not be suitable for a vehicle capable of low flight.

Mathias Thomsen of Airbus made a bold claim that the technology in Pop.Up will be available in the next five to ten years. He said that the problem is not so much in the public infrastructure. However, he explained that the flying car can only be seamlessly used with careful urban planning. He expects significant changes in regulatory environments once the flying car is already available for public use.

Mercedes-AMG GT Concept Car Shown at the Geneva Motor Show

The Mercedes-AMG GT Concept car was finally unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. From the information, photos and video released by Daimler about the high-performance saloon, there is a lot to be excited about when the production version of the vehicle hits the market.

AMG Future Performance: Sportwagen-Marke präsentiert Hybrid-Showcar: Mercedes-AMG GT Concept – Driving Performance der Zukunft

The Mercedes-AMG GT Concept is the four-door variant of the Mercedes-AMG GT sports car. Significant improvements can be seen in the styling of the concept vehicle compared to its two-door counterpart.

The AMG GT Concept copies many exterior elements found in the AMG GT. However, due to the four-door design of the concept car, it appears more muscular and spacious than its AMG GT sibling. The body lines on the sides are also removed to give way to a smoother body that allows the artistic reflection of light from the vehicle’s surroundings. Then the front grille of the auto adopts the Panamericana design found in the facelifted AMG GT.

Engine

AMG Future Performance: Sportwagen-Marke präsentiert Hybrid-Showcar: Mercedes-AMG GT Concept – Driving Performance der Zukunft

The AMG GT Concept makes use of the new 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine of Mercedes. The combustion unit is paired with an electric motor to give it a performance boost. According to Daimler, the concept vehicle was able to produce up to 600 kW in its latest testing. The automaker aims to make the zero to 100 km/h acceleration of the car to be achieved in under three seconds.

The four-door AMG GT can be driven using solely its combustion engine. The driver can opt to use its electric motor alone too. To utilize the maximum performance of the car, its operating mode can be set to use both power units to fully take advantage of its hybrid drivetrain.

peugeot 3008

The Peugeot 3008 emerged as the winner of the “Car of the Year 2017” title at the 87th Geneva Motor Show. The prestigious award was received by Peugeot CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato who took over the company in September 2016.

According to the official website of Geneva International Motor Show, the final voting for the award took place last Monday, March 6, 2017. The jury was composed of 58 journalists hailing from 22 European countries. The final list for the title included the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Citroën C3, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Nissan Micra, Peugeot 3008, Toyota C-HR, Volvo S90/V90.

The scoring of the judges were determined based on the criteria of design, innovation, security and value for money of the vehicles. The Peugeot 3008 gained a total of 309 points from the jury, which was the highest among the other entries. The Alfa Romeo Giulia was the first runner-up with 296 points followed by the Mercedes-Benz E-Class with 197 points.

President of the Jury Hakan Matson, who is also a part of Swedish economic magazine Dagens Industri, said they recognize the increasing share of SUVs and crossovers in the market. Therefore, they chose the Peugeot 3008 as the winner for this year’s award.

Based on a report by Car, Imparato stated, “We made it, the long way from hell to heaven. In 2012, we decided never more (to flirt with bankruptcy), we decided to put the money into the product. We are really proud, it’s a great moment for us,” as he received the award.

It should be noted that the Car of the Year award goes all the way back to 1964. It was created by STERN.

Peugeot is no stranger to the Car of the Year award. The brand first won the distinction in 1969 with the 504. Then, it went on to get the same recognition with the 405 and 307 in the past. The 3008 is the fourth product of the company to get the title.
