5 Things About the SsangYong XAVL Concept SUV

ssangyong xavl (5)

Korean automaker Ssangyong just unveiled its concept sport utility vehicle at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show. The company calls it the SsangYong XAVL concept.

Here are the top 5 things about the SsangYong XAVL concept that should capture your interest:

1. About the Name

According to Caradvice, XAVL stands for “eXciting Authentic Vehicle Long”. The concept vehicle is the brand’s entry to the mid-size SUV segment in the market.

2. Design

The concept SUV measures 4,630 mm long, 1,866 mm wide and 1,640 mm tall. The vehicle’s wheelbase is at 2,775 mm. The auto carries over the designs of the 2016 SIV-2 and LIV-2 concepts that preceded it.

The cabin of the XAVL can accommodate up to seven passengers. Earlier pictures of the auto released by its maker showed a minimalist approach to its interior design, which is typical to all mid-size SUVs in the market today.

The XAVL bears a sense of ruggedness in its stance, thanks to its sharp body lines, curves, aggressive bumpers and nose, slim lighting system, plus flared wheel arches.

3. Engine

SsangYong revealed that the production version of the concept SUV will carry two engine trims. One is a 1.6-liter turbo-diesel and the other is a 1.5-liter petrol unit. The power of the vehicle will be channeled to an all-wheel drive system and distributed via a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox.

4. Tech

The SsangYong XAVL will house updated navigation, climate control and infotainment systems. The source claimed that its infotainment system will even allow its user to access with their smart home appliances remotely such as the CCTV, security and air conditioning units.

5. Arrival

Mercedes-Benz wasted no time in making a statement at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The three-pointed star marque immediately showcased its new cars and sport utility vehicles in the press conference of the event.

The luxury vehicle brand presented a lot of its products in Geneva, including new drivetrains of its existing GLA range and special edition versions of its cars, but let us take a look at the three new models that really stood out in the event:

1. Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet

17C145_034

The company focused on the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet during the show. The car gets the design of its coupe sibling, but it ditches the roof found in the coupe to give way to a retractable soft top. The featured model in Geneva was the Mercedes-Benz E400 Cabriolet.

2. Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet

Mercedes Benz Media- Preview "Meet Mercedes", Geneva 2017

The Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet combines the off-road qualities of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and the ultra-luxurious elements offered by the revived Maybach label.

The landaulet is based on the Mercedes-AMG G63 6×6 and the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×42. The SUV has a four-seating capacity and a convertible rear to allow open air ride to its passengers at the back. Massage and neck-leaving heating function were also added for extra level of comfort for its occupants. Moreover, the auto is powered by a V12 engine with an output of 630 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque.

3. Four-Door Mercedes-AMG GT Concept

17C145_011

The company previewed the early phase of the development of the four-door Mercedes-AMG GT Concept. The sports car is the response of the brand to the Porsche Panamera.

Details about the high-performance saloon is still scarce. It is expected to get the form of the Mercedes-AMG GT and its engine trims. However, look forward to a smoother exterior with reduced body lines in the four-door sports car compared to the two-door AMG GT. The enhanced styling is in line with the new “Aesthetics A” design language of the luxury car brand. Of course, there might be adjustments in the measurements of the four-door AMG GT due to its new interior layout.

The new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross was just unveiled. Let us take a look at the features, photos and other important stuff about the new sport utility vehicle of the giant Japanese automaker here.

1. Model Year

The new SUV will be carrying a 2018 model year.

2. Design

The Eclipse Cross features a sportier and more stylish appearance compared to the other SUVs of Mitsubishi. The auto borrows many elements found in the Mitsubishi XR-PHEV concept shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2013.

The front grille and headlamp layout of the Eclipse Cross also remind us of the ones found on the Mitsubishi Concept XR-PHEV Evolution. It should be noted that car was featured in the virtual world of the Gran Turismo 6 video game released in 2013 for the Playstation 3. It was said to be an extension of the XR-PHEV concept.

The interior of the SUV showcases black leather surfaces matched with silver accents highlighting its important elements plus red stitching on the seats. A central display can be found in the middle of the dashboard with tablet-like design. The automaker claimed too that the rear seats of the vehicle offer a 60:40 split.

3. Engine

Two options are available for the powertrains of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. One is a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine and the other is a 2.2-liter turbo diesel unit. The engine is paired with a four-wheel drive system.

The Eclipse Cross will bridge the gap between Mitsubishi’s Outlander Sport and the mid-size Outlander unit.

5. Debut

The debut of the 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is scheduled on March 7 at the Geneva Motor Show.

5 Things To Know About The 2017 BMW X7

2017 bmw x7 (3)

We know that BMW wants to be at the top of everything, but we didn’t know they would eventually dominate the hauler segment of vehicles. The X7 is one such example. Although the production hasn’t started yet, it will surely come out ready once BMW is done with it.

While it’s likely that the X7 will debut for the 2019 model year, that doesn’t stop us from speculating what’s underneath that camouflage we saw in the spy photos. The BMW X7 was caught testing again recently under the cold weather conditions of Sweden.

1. Exterior

The X7 will be particularly similar to the X5, though it’s a bit bulkier, has a more imposing appearance, and has a proper third-row seating. It also has a more muscular looks, thanks to its larger wheels and massive kidney grille. The headlight design we saw on the X7 is the same one on the brand new 7 series. As for the bumper, it will be similar to the company’s design language.

2. Interior

Combine the X7 and the new 7 series, and you’ll get an idea of how the X7’s interior will look like. Alcantara leather will cover most of the interior that’s not made from wood or metal. It uses state-of-the-art technology, including BMW’s iDrive 5.0 touch display and gesture control. It also has the Touch Command Tablet, which will allow passengers to control HVAC temperatures, infotainment, and the audio system.

The third-row seat will be optional because buyers can choose to have more legroom and a larger trunk.

3. Drivetrain

Under the hood, nothing is so special with the X7. It will use BMW’s 3.0-liter inline-six and 4.4-liter V-8. The turbo can produce 320 horsies and 330 pound-feet of torque while hitting 60 mph in less than six seconds. It has a top speed of 130 mph.

The V-8 will be able to churn out 445 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque to reach 60 mph in less than five seconds.

4. Prices

The X7 will probably be the most expensive of the X series. Although there is no official word yet, we’re assuming that this will retail with a starting price of $70,000. The range-topping model should exceed the $85,000 mark.

5. Competition

As for competition, the X7 is looking to battle it out with the Mercedes-Benz GLS and the Cadillac Escalade.

3 Things You Need To Know About The New Mitsubishi SUV

mitsubishi suv

Despite the fact that Mitsubishi’s all-new compact SUV is only slated to be revealed at the 2017 Geneva Auto Show, the Japanese automaker has decided to give us a glimpse of what’s to come. The five-seater bandwagon will address the gap in the Mitsubishi SUV lineup.

Here are what we found out about it based on a source:

1. It Will Slide Between The ASX And The Outlander

This new compact SUV from Mitsubishi will fill the gap between the current ASX and the Outlander in the Japanese car manufacturer’s lineup. This will prove Mitsubishi’s plan to eventually move from passenger cars to a SUV-centric range.

2. It Will Be Based On XR-PHEV And XR-PHEV II Concepts

Mitsubishi refused to divulge any details about what platform will be used on this new SUV, but the exterior detailing has us wondering if the XR-PHEV and XR-PHEV II concepts will play a major role here.

The teaser for the SUV gave us a glimpse of sharply angled design, slanted C-pillar, and wedge-shaped glass house. All of these bear similarities with the two previous concepts.

Reminiscent of the ASX, this new SUV will have a slightly smaller size for the next generation. It will sport a traditional five-door and five-seater cabin.

3. It Will Have A Petrol Or Diesel Engine

Though Mitsubishi has not released any details about the powertrains in their new SUV, we bet the automaker will use a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol and a 2.2-liter turbo diesel found in the Outlander. The petrol will be paired with a six-speed manual or a CVT automatic while the diesel will be mated with a six-speed automatic.

Both of these engines will come standard with a front- and all-wheel drive systems. Mitsubishi is also expected to come out with a plug-in hybrid variant, which is based on Outlander PHEV’s petrol-electric drivetrain.

There are no pricing details yet, but expect it to be similar with the ASX XLS, which has a price tag of $36,490.

3 Great Reasons To Buy The Skoda Kodiaq Scout

Skoda Kodiaq Scout (3)

When Skoda introduced its all-new seven-seater SUV, netizens can’t help but baptize it with a new name—Skodiaq. So, it’s not really a surprise that its more competent off-road version is now being called the Skoda Kodiaq Scout (yes to the Scout badge).

There are few differences between the Skodiaq and this Kodiaq Scout, but the latter beats the former in ground clearance and exterior styling.

Here are the traits possessed by the new Kodiaq Scout based on a source:

Better Off-Road Credentials

Thanks to an increase in ground clearance, drivers of the Kodiaq Scout will undoubtedly have a better experience with this new SUV. It will come standard with an all-wheel drive traction just like the Octavia Scout. The exterior styling differentiations included a rear underbody protection that’s great for off-the-road performance.

Varied Driving Selections

The Kodiaq Scout uses the mid-range Ambition trim, and packs the standard security features like the Off-Road Assist. It also has a total of six different Driving Mode Select system: Eco, Comfort, Normal, Sport, Individual, and Snow.

You can enjoy all of these driving amenities while in the luxurious interiors with standard equipment such as 10-color LED ambient lighting, Alcantara upholstery, steel pedals, textile floor, mats, and an infotainment system with eight speakers.

Three Powertrains Options

Three powertrains are available: the 1.4 TSI as the base model, the higher-end 2.0 TSI, and the most popular 2.0 TDI. The base model can produce 150 horsepower (110 kilowatts) that is good to go 62 mph in 9.8 seconds. It has a top speed of 122 mph.

The 2.0 TSI, on the other hand, gives off 180 horsepower (132 kilowatts) to go 62 mph in eight seconds. It has a maximum speed of 128 mph.

Undoubtedly, the most popular choice for drivers would be the 2.0 TDI, which can produce 150 or 190 horsepower. The first one can go at 9.5 seconds and has a maximum speed of 122 mph while the 190 will have credentials of 8.9 seconds and 130 mph.

All of them will come standard with AWD with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch in front of the rear differential. The ground clearance is 194 mm. The SUV comes with an extra protection for the underbody, brake and fuel lines, cables, and engine.

4 Key Features Of The 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT

2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT (2)

The emergence of crossovers and SUVs is a matter of practicality for most Americans. Since they can haul more people and have better space than sedans, crossovers and SUVs have obviously become a favorite for many Americans.

It’s no surprise that manufacturers are adding sportiness and sexiness to these compact vehicles to widen the genre and market reach.

Mild Facelift For 2014 SRT

The model first came to consciousness as a 420-horsepower Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, which ran from 2006 to 2011. The second generation came about in 2012. It was a 470-horsepower machine with an abbreviated SRT suffix. By 2014, it received a mild facelift, as well as a new eight-speed automatic transmission with launch control.

Since that year, it received an update of five more horsepower and 5 lb-ft of torque for a grand total of 475 and 470, respectively. This 2017, the Grand Cherokee SRT will undergo slight touchups cosmetically.

Handsome And Luxurious Interior

In the past, the Grand Cherokee SRT couldn’t win comparison tests because its interiors are basic and unassuming. Compared with other vehicles with this much power in the market, the Grand Cherokee SRT would feel like one of your everyday cars.

This year, the Grand Cherokee SRT has been fitted with saddle-colored hides, microsuede leather headliner, carbon-fiber trim, and a batch of other options, most of which come with a hefty price tag. You can opt for these: a panoramic sunroof ($2095), a dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system ($1995), and a premium audio system (also $1995).

You may also get it with a trailer-tow package for $995, as well as an $895 set of Pirelli P Zero Run Flat summer tires in $1295 set of 20-inch wheels, and $1295 Brembo brake calipers,

Speed And Power Like No Other

The Jeep’s engine can go 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. If you want to go 30-to-50 mph, that would be 2.9 seconds while 50 to 70 took 3.2 seconds. These aren’t astounding numbers, but the best thing about the Grand Cherokee SRT is that you won’t feel just how fast you’re going. It has such a good suspension system that handling it is such a breeze.

It has multiple driving modes: Snow, Tow, Auto, Sport, and Track. The front/rear torque distribution varies depending on the driving mode.

Cheaper Than Other High-Performance SUVs

At $78,455, the Grand Cherokee SRT is way more affordable than its other rivals from Porsche, Land Rover, and Mercedes-Benz.

3 Things That Differentiate The 2017 Peugeot 2008 Model Lineup

2017 Peugeot 2008 (1)

The compact SUV market is getting bigger, and French company Peugeot certainly wants a chunk of that market. Thanks to its updated Peugeot 2008, the automaker can finally compete in the SUV crossover segment with the likes of Mazda CX-3 and Toyota CH-R.

Based on a source, the new look for the 2008 gets a refreshed front, which means a new front bumper, dual grilles, and oddly shaped headlights. It has a hatchback-like roof line, though the floating roof at the rear highlights the reworked taillight design of the 2017 Peugeot 2008.

2017 Peugeot 2008 (2)

We are not sure if this is standard across the lineup, but the Peugeot 2008 will get a turbocharged 1.2-liter 3-cylinder petrol engine as opposed to the petrol and diesel options in the previous model. This new engine can produce 81kW and 205Nm. This is then paired with a six-speed robotized manual for all range after the French automaker left out the traditional manual and auto transmissions.

1. Active

Aside from the aforementioned features, the base model Active will have these following: 16-inch alloy wheels, reversing camera, rear parking sensors, cruise control, leather steering wheel, Bluetooth, and Apple CarPlay accessible through a seven-inch screen.

2. Allure

The next model in line is the Allure. With this, you’ll get the additional self-parking function, navigation, auto wipers, auto headlights, cornering fog lights, dual-zone air-conditioning, rear privacy glass, autonomous emergency braking, and 17-inch alloy wheels.

3. GT-Line

As the range-topping model, the GT-Line will get styling upgrades such as red highlights on the door handles, seatbelts and handbrakes, alloy door sills and sports pedals, red contrast stitching on the premium leather steering wheel, and red LED instrument panel surround.

You’ll know it’s a GT-Line when you see it because of the chrome exhaust on the rear bumper, the black highlights on the roof rails, the front grille that surround the red-colored Peugeot lettering, and the rear door trim and spoiler and mirror shells.

What To Get Excited About In The Redesigned 2018 GMC Terrain

2018-gmc-terrain (4)

After circling each other for some time, the GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox are finally going head-to-head because they are both being redesigned for 2018. GMC said its Terrain is now smaller and lighter than its predecessor, making it an ideal fit in the compact crossover and SUVs segment.

Since there are no test drives yet of the Terrain, it will be hard to determine how this less size and weight affected the handling and aerodynamics. If GMC is right, this may finally be the year that they beat the Equinox in its own game.

Smaller And Lighter

The lightest version of the 2018 Terrain is said to have this little fact: it is 465 pounds lighter than the lightest version of the current Terrain. To do this, GMC had to remove the physical heft, so the smoother roof on the redesigned model has the “lightness” and “grace” than the chunkier current generation.

The dimensions of this redesigned Terrain are these: 3.2 inches shorter in length, 0.4 inch narrower, and 0.9 inch lower than the Terrain that it’s going to replace. Curiously, the wheelbase is smaller by 5.2 inches, but the interior is more spacious than before. The rear legroom has 0.2 inch more and the front-seat legroom has 0.3 inch more.

Speed Is The Name

The base Terrain will come packing a turbocharged 1.5-liter four that produces 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. The step-up engines are the turbocharged 2.0-liter four that cranks out 252 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and the 1.6-liter four-cylinder diesel that comes up with 137 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque.

A Denali Trim Is Available

The 2018 Terrain comes in four trims—SL, SLE, SLT, and the range-topping Delani trims. All variants come with the standard LED daytime running lamps, LED taillights, HID headlights, active interior noise cancellation, aluminum cabin pieces, and soft-touch materials on the dashboard and door panels.

The Denali trim will add these: chrome accents, Bose audio system, a satin-chrome grille, a power liftgate, 19-inch aluminum wheels, navigation, LED headlights, heated steering wheel, and piping on the front seats.

Top 3 Features of the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

2018-chevrolet-traverse-6

If there is any automaker that understands Americans’ need for big cars, it’s General Motors. From their full-size Chevrolet to GMC to Cadillac SUVs, GM made a name for themselves in the truck and crossover segment.

1. Bigger Than Its Predecessor

We’re in the second generation of the Chevrolet Traverse, and it’s safe to say this new one won’t disappoint basing from sources. In fact, it mightily impresses. It has a wheelbase that is two inches longer than its predecessor, and is a full eight inches longer than the Acadia. This means that passengers will get to enjoy a roomier cabin—more headroom and legroom for the second- and third-row seats. That’s pretty impressive because the outgoing Traverse is already roomier than any of its contemporaries.

2. Cargo Area Is Smaller Than The Current Generation Chevrolet Traverse

Unfortunately, the cargo area couldn’t be bigger enough. It is smaller in dimensions. As to why, GM has yet to give out details on that. Don’t fret, though, because the next-generation Traverse’ 23 cubic feet space behind its third-row seating still beats that of its competitions: the Honda Pilot (16 cubic feet) and the Ford Explorer (21 cubic feet).

If you want more cargo space, you can opt not to have passengers and simply fold the second- and third-row seats. That will give you a total space of 99 cubic feet, down from 116 cubic feet on the current generation Traverse. Still, that’s a pretty impressive space compared to Volkswagen Atlas’ 97 cubic feet.

3. Seven- And Eight-Passenger Configurations Offered

You have options with the 2018 Traverse: either a seven-passenger seat or an eight-passenger seat configuration. The lower trim levels have three-seat benches for the second and third rows while the higher end versions sport two captain’s chairs in the middle row. You’ll be excited over the quick-release second-row seat that makes accessing the third row easier.
